I use Getright once and a while...but that's about it. I do know that GoZilla is the worst one...and it's full of lots and lots of spyware....:D

i used go!zilla back when it first came out. it was pretty good. then i discovered DAP. i dunno for me it gets the job done. it is _not_ complicated like all those other download managers. it does what i need it to.

i just find the rest of them to be too annoying, to complex, and more trouble then they are worth...

/me says NONE because I use a high speed connection! If I were to have dial-up, though, then Netscape SmartDownload would suit me just great! :)

When I said NONE, I actually let Netscape 6.2.1 or Mozilla 0.9.9 take care of the downloading! :) BTW, I'm gonna move this thread to Software Assistance! ;) :o

I used to use Download Accelerator Pro, but got tired of it screwing up certain things (had issues with html redirects, etc).

I tried FlashGet just recently and love it. It is fast loading, smart about what it downloads, and just simple. Very minor issues compared to DAP.

Gozilla for a while, till I learned something about computers. Then DAP for 5 minutes (couldn't find ad remover), then tried all the rest but I think Ill go to get right.

EDIT: Damn thiso ones tough. Getright is skinnable, but what i've seen it looks ugly as hell. VS Flashget. Meh. Must choose...

Flashget

I've been with it like forever.

Even when it used to be called Jetcar.

It doesn't matter if you have high speed broadband, sometimes it just depends on the other server, not on you. And that's when you need some reliable resumable software to complete your download.

Even though I'm on T1, I always use Flashget if I download files over 10 mb.

I've tryed em all out at one point or another... along with a few others... but I like Getright... it's simple most the time... but If I want to get some dirty stuff done then It has the tools I need... But most the time nowadays I just use the default windows XP download... just cause I don't want another icon in my systray. :)

Ahahaha, I totally get you man, I still watches it sometimes and feels all "oooh, ahhhh" :D

Man, I still remember back in the days... when I only have dial up. Back then, there were only couple choices for download managers, GetRIGHT and GoZ!lla. Well, I used GetRIGHT, probably because it looked better. I hated how ugly the wannabe godzilla looked. Damn, I just hated that picture.

And GoZ!illa was fat. Everything about it was fat, the windows were fat, everything was fat. And I liked how GetRIGHT introduced the segment downloading and the browser thing, that was really handy for some situations ;)

Anyways, right now I actually have a couple download managers in my system right now. (It's for those couple hundred MB files ^_^) I have FlashGET, GetRIGHT, Mass Downloader, and Download Mage. Each app has their own strong points, etc. But mainly I use FlashGET for all my resuming needs.

BTW, sometimes, a download manager won't download a file as quick as another app because of the way it communicates with the server I think. e.g. FlashGET get stuck on certain file, and GetRIGHT will successfully download it.

When I first started using the net 2 years ago, I used the normal IE downloader for a few months, then started using Gozilla for a while, was happy with it until I changed ISP, it became crap then. Moved to DAP, and uninstalled it for downloading at a lame 500bytes/sec. Use Getright, not really fast. Then used DAP again, they got better and was happy with it for a long while (the mirror search was neat). Then just about 7 months ago I started using Flashget and have stuck with it ever since! Nothing can beat flashget's speed limit feature and handling of files, its fast too!

I just finished using Star Downloader, and Fresh Download.

I tested them all night to see what one was better. I chose these 2 because they are both free and have no spyware crap.

They are both simple to use, and seem to work nice. I like them both, they seem to function about equal, so I will keep testing to see what one I decide to go with. I did notice one thing...when used as a seperate downloader, they both were faster than the generic one in Windows, but when you selected to make either one of them your default download manager, they seemed to slow down. So......... It makes me wonder........ did Microsoft do something so that if we wanted to use other downloaders, our speed would be throttled? It sure seems that way! And it wouldn't suprise me! :ermm:

I've tried some dl managers (DAP, Getright, Gozilla, Star downloader, flashget)

I thought flashget was best, cuz it integrates seamlessly into IE and Opera (which are the 2 i've tried)

and has some kickass speed.
