Some of her shots were quite audacious and brilliant (e.g. when they were at 4 games apiece in the second set). I noticed this during her semi final against Lindsey Davenport but some of her returns are just amazing - she gets some really good angles on the ball and covers the court very well. I thought Serena had a bit of an off day, but she's still a fantastic player, and, at times, played some nice stuff. But the luck wasn't on her side today and the better player - deservedly - won. Oh, and the fact that Maria Sharapova really is very pretty, talented and seems a very down-to-earth person as well can't hurt at all. I just hope that she's got the right people around her to help her get through all the increased attention she'll get after winning a Grand Slam. Large Posted July 4, 2004 Share Posted July 4, 2004 Sharapova played some excellent tennis today, some of the return volleys were outstanding for a girl of her age. On the last volley, when she sank to her knee's with her head in her hands, it nearly brought a tear to my eye, she played well and deserved to win ! Then she climbed through the crowd to thank the person that has been with her all the way, her dad !
