Larney
Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> Tick "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the dekstop" That should sort it...see attached image below: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/188319-desktop-icons/#findComment-2453421 Share on other sites

Were you using a different wallpaper before applying Royale. Sometimes PNG images can have this effect, especially looking at the folders and the black outline. Or you can save it as .gif, .jpg. Verbose.
Try a white background as an experiment to see if it looks the same. I contend it won't. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/188319-desktop-icons/#findComment-2453986 Share on other sites

Tokar
there is a program out there called ClearTweak... its a program that tweaks cleartype. While that isnt what you are loking for, i happened to "skip" over one of the features of the program which will edit the foreground and background colors of desktop icon text. That may or may not do the trick. I dont feel like getting a link to it, but i know for sure you can search for it and find it over at http://www.softpedia.com its freeware... Are you sure its there? oh sh*t im sorry... i downloaded these 2 programs at the same time and ran them, so i got confused as to which program did what. Those 2 programs were ClearTweak and DColorXP. Apparently DColorXP is the one that has the Icon Font tweaking. Im terribly sorry. For that i shall give you a direct link :) and not force you to search for one :). http://dliboon.freeshell.org/files/products/dcolorxp10.zip Its a really neat tool that lets you Arrange your icons on the desktop like in Explorer's List arrange function as well. Its really neat. And the thing you need: There is an option in the desktop icons text to make the background transparent...your answer :). dreamz Veteran Posted July 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 10, 2004 here's tclock2 v. 1.1.2. a lot of people here recommend dcolorxp to get that tile view on the desktop. do you have to have it running to get the transparent background? maybe we can figure out what it does exactly.
