The &OEM$ folder shouldn't be affected in anyway once SP2 is slipstreamed. JRosenfeld Posted August 16, 2004 Share Posted August 16, 2004 I used my OEM Dell XP SP1 home edition CD with Autostreamer and the SP2 update downloaded from MS. No problems at all. The iso file is just over 590MB. The XPSP2 CD produced using Roxio basic 5.3.5.10 (576 MB as compared with 526 MB for the Dell disk) seems fine (it is bootable,set up starts, but I have not actually tried an install). If loaded within XP, the usual autorun 'welcome, what do you want to do' screen comes up, all the links work as on the original, and some of the documentation is updated to refer to SP2. Rel to a post about 10 pages back on this thread, as far as I can tell, all the original OEM files are copied with their original date stamps. (searched both CDs for 'OEM' as part of name, came up with the same number of objects). Two extra files appear in the root folder (WIN51IC.SP2 and Setupxp.htm) also setup.exe and readme.htm have 2004 date stamp instead of the original 2002. In I386 and some of its subfolders, many files have the 2004 date stamp, there are also an extra 176 files in I386. Otherwise all other folders ($OEM$, Docs, Dotnetfx, Support, Valueadd) and their contents are identical copies from the Dell CD. So I assume that if I used the XPSP2 disk for a clean install, it would behave in the same way as the original disk (e.g. no activation, etc.), except that it would be XP SP2 instead of XP SP1. Is that correct? I only have the one PC, installed SP2 update directly over the existing SP1 (no problems). So I don't want to do a clean instal just for the heck of it. I have run AutoStreamer and created a new bootable XPSP2 CD without any apparent difficulty. But, can someone clarify a couple things? 1. Does AutoStreamer change, add, or delete ANYTHING while doing its slipstreaming? In other words, do I end up with a bootable CD that is simply my original XP CD with SP2 slipstreamed? (I ask this because I actually found nLite before I found AutoStreamer, and it appears to make some changes by default -- and many more if you want it to). 2. The "Pre-SP2" indication on the screen is a small bug because we didn't know the final build number, but it affects nothing about the end result, right? So, I don't need to worry about re-creating my CD with the next release of AutoStreamer if mine worked just fine? Thanks for the help. paratrupr Posted August 17, 2004 Share Posted August 17, 2004 The only thing it does is slipstream service packs into the original OS release and makes it bootable (XP, 2000, 2003 when SP1 comes out, etc). Unfortunately it doesn't do anything else, like allow modification to the folders (ie unattended install, etc). Although nlite has more features, it also has many more bugs than Autosteamer. Many of the issues found here are consistent with either PEBCAK, or compatibility with OEM disks. You do not need to worry about the Pre-SP2 issue; as you noted, the final build number was not known to the programmer. When he returns from whatever vacation spot he went to (must be nice though), he will fix this. HP instead provides a recovery partition and the ability to create ONE set of recovery CD's. Personally, I HATE that system, but that's another issue .... Can I still use autostreamer to slipstream XPSP2 without having a CD? I tried pointing it to my i386 folder, but it obviously didn't like that, as the "next" button remained greyed out, and I couldn't proceed any further. Am I doing something wrong or is there no way I can actually do this? Everything seemed like it went fine, burned the .iso, reformated w/ said disc, and when it was all said and done, no SP2 integration. Any ideas what could have went wrong here? The only thing you can do is upgrade your existing OS with SP2. I prefer using WindowsXP (Gold) to slipstream SP2, but it should work with WindowsXP SP1 CD without a problem. I put the original Windows XP CD in the CD-ROM, AutoStreamer reads it as drive H:\. Then I searched for the SP2.exe, I moved it to the desktop, so AutoStreamer reads it from there. I leave the Temporary file as it is, all three have green check marks. I click next, as desired label I have WINXPSP2, and the location is letter D:\WindowsXP.SP2.Slipstreamed\WINXPSP2.iso. I click on Finish and it starts doing its thing. I saw differents steps, the last two were Integrating and then Creating ISO, but there is no ISO when I went to the folder. I have done this 4x and still no ISO. What could be the problem? Any idea? edit: There are almost 7gigs left on letter D. Here is a sshot of the last AutoStreamer Window. Try renaming "D:\WindowsXP.SP2.Slipstreamed\WINXPSP2.iso" to soemthing like "D:\WindowsXP-SP2-Slipstreamed\WINXPSP2.iso" Perhaps the ISO wound up with a funny name. Any files called "WindowsXP.SP2" or similar on your D: drive?
