hows that mouse treat ya?

It's excellent; works perfectly with OS X, although the horizontal scrolling is far too slow.

I've got it set up like this: left/right/middle work as usual, the back/forward/app switch buttons control expos?, and the "cruise" up/down buttons (surrounding the wheel) zooms in and out of things. (using osx's zoom, so it works anywhere)

It's amazing how sensitive it is though; it's like making the switch from ball mice to optical all over again. With my Apple bluetooth mouse I had tracking set to one under max speed, with this, it's right down near the bottom and still moves about faster. You'd think that being faster would make it harder to use, but it's actually even more accurate when moving slowly.

andrewfee: nice powerbook :). I love my 17 inch too :)

I have a 15" powerbook as of now, but Im curious about the 17. Hows the battery life on the thing? Ive seen the computer in person and it just looks really, REALLY big. Do you really carry it around a bunch?

I take it everywhere. It's actually REALLY light compared to other 17 inch laptops. As you can see in my pics above, it's huge, so I had to buy a new case. The battery life is actually BETTER than the 15 inch. The battery, on longest battery life settings, minimal use of Superdrive (burning dvd's, cd's) and brightness turned down, lasts about 3 hours and 30 minutes. On my 15 inch, it was about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Just got my new 17" Powerbook today! :D

I've only got pics of opening it (and they've not been touched up yet) but I'm too busy using it now, lol.

I'm glad I went with the 17" instead of a 15" though, it's just the right size for me.

It seems as snappy as my iMac G5 so far, if not faster, with the exception of hard drive intensive stuff. (booting takes 3x as long I'd say) The screen doesn't seem as good quality as the 20" on the iMac... like it's got a lower refresh or something. 25ms maybe? Either way it's fine for what I'll be using it for though.

There are a couple of (tiny) marks on the lid, but it's otherwise a perfect machine, so I can live with it. I didn't get an iLife '05 disc, so I'll be calling about that. (but I've got to contact them to get my extra 512mb stick of RAM sent out.

Anyway, enough talking:

The damage:

Just to give you a sense of scale, those marks are smaller than a pixel, so I'd rather keep the "damaged" powerbook than get one with a bad display. (this one is perfect)

I like everything on there except for the really small keyboard.

My Mom's 20" iMac G5 which I've taken on the task of getting set up and such.

Does anyone know a Mac Bittorrent client better than azureus?

Let's see... the only reason you would wanna use a Bittorrent is to pirate software, movies or music... why don't you simply quit stealing and go and buy it? The hardware thread is not really a place to be asking such questions, nor is it a place to be giving responses...

don't jump to conclusions. many of my friends and i use it to exchange large documents that are not pirated.

please don't immediately blame people for something they didn't do.

Another pic of the powerbook in action. :) This is where it'll primarily be used.

Oh, man. That's awesome

Guys, one question about iPod Shuffle?

Is this good without lcd display on it? How I can choose what track to play?

585532923[/snapback]

I just depends on how you plan to use it really; I usually load it up with an artist a day, and just let it play random tracks.

It's not good if you're wanting a specific song; the whole point is that you (generally) leave it in random.

andrewfee: nice setup!

I would also like to add, that iLife '05 DVD (if you had iDVD5 and GarageBand2) preinstalled on your PowerBook, and it also came with an OS X 10.3.7 (or .8) install DVD, check out the contents. If it's anything like mine, you'll see "install additional packages" or something similar. This DVD is both OS X and iLife '05 DVD in one! I was about to call Apple as well, until I read it somewhere... :)

I was sure it was iLife '04 that I saw on the Powerbook; but when I re-installed OSX I noticed iLife '05 in the options. It was strange though, iMovie HD was just showing as a question mark in the dock, and wouldn't work, so I had to re-install it off my iLife disc. (I had just recently bought iLife '05 for my iMac before it died completely)

No that's not true. Some Linux distros are distributed as torrents.
