Your Mac Hardware Setup

Seems like alot of people switched from desktops to portables. I did myself a fair while ago. I used to have a top of the line Dual 2GHz G5 with a cinema display, it was awesome. I then switched to the last version of the G4 PowerBook (1.67GHz @ 15"). That was stolen from my apartment this year and so I spent just shy of ?2k for this MacBook Pro (17", Dual Core 2.5GHz, 1920x1200, 4Gb), and I couldn't be happier. Awesome machine, definitely worth the money to me...

Those Titanium Powerbooks are priceless

but I'm assuming the one he stole was the aluminum version right?

I could have gone in easily for a 24-inch iMac. After all, I loved my good old iMac Core Duo 17-inch.

But after buying a sweet Samsung 24 inch display, I felt I had to make full use of it, and another display (24-inch iMac) would just take up too much space, even though I have a large desk. I value the empty spaces.

So I went in for a Macbook Pro and am using it as a desktop. It sits in the open desk cabinet where a tower case would typically sit, lid nearly closed, and if I ever need to take it anywhere, I can.

Haven't regretted it. In fact it'll be notebooks/portables from now on, attached to a display.

Yeah it was Ai! I think the TiBooks stopped at like 667MHz. I think back then i had my G4 Cube... Sure miss that!

Definitely agree about portables as main machines! Some people think my 17" MBP is too big, but hell is it!

Is that the new 24" cinema display Virtual? Look awesome :)

why yes it is!, thank you. I also sold my 24" iMac for a more mobile setup. sorry for the crappy pic.......damn cheap iphone camera......lol

The display is just as vibrant as the imac so I am very pleased. My only complaint is that for some retarded reason, the made the power connector for the laptop a right angle instead of straight, but i can live with it, i suppose...

Congratulations on your purchase! Enjoy

Thanks!

Excellent, congrats!!

how much?

$1249 CAD, which is a discount of $150. Not bad, considering my Student Discount only nets me a $50 savings on a regular day.

Great photo Trekkie, can't wait to buy my Macbook early this year :)

What do you make of OS X so far?

I've had experience with OSX from other places, it's nice but I'm still getting used to using it on a regular basis lol. Hardcore Windows user here, feeling like such a nublet ha.

An addition to the new MacBook Pro; Cinema Display arrived today, got the old one. No gloss and aesthetically pleasing, unlike the new LED ones :)

Are there price drops on the old ones as the new ones are available?
