Clinton Adviser Probed Over Terror Memos

Recommended Posts

WASHINGTON - Sandy Berger, former President Clinton (news - web sites)'s national security adviser, is under criminal investigation by the Justice Department (news - web sites) after highly classified terrorism documents disappeared while he was reviewing what should be turned over to the Sept. 11 commission.

Berger's home and office were searched earlier this year by FBI (news - web sites) agents armed with warrants after the former Clinton adviser voluntarily returned some sensitive documents to the National Archives and admitted he also removed handwritten notes he had made while reviewing the sensitive documents.

However, some drafts of a sensitive after-action report on the Clinton administration's handling of al-Qaida terror threats during the December 1999 millennium celebration are still missing, officials and lawyers told The Associated Press.

Berger and his lawyer said Monday night he knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket and pants, and also inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio.

This is a potenially huge bomb for the Democrats. The basic tenet of their "blame" Bush for 9/11 is that Bush recieved all he needed to be prepared and that Cinton had no good reason to take any action. I wonder what was in those papers and I seriously doubt they will ever turn up considering it took Hilalry three years to find a file on her bookshelf.

I don't think it's a huge bomb in the essence you're thinking. Supposedly the only things missing are from the '99 millenium attack which was thwarted, so I don't see how there'd be anything worse than say the after-action reports of the successful attacks on the WTC or the USS Cole.

However I do think it's a bomb in the essence on what a collosal dumbass you have to be to steal that info, even "inadvertantly".

i think they need to do some more investigating into the Clinton Administration.

where do you think the majority the information the Bush Administration got was from?

Lol he "knowingly" put the documents in his pants and jacket, he "inadvertantly" put the documents in his portfolio. He's dumb, but not so dumb he mistakingly puts stuff down his pants.

Makes you wonder just what was in those documents. I want to hear the chants "What did Clinton know and when did he know it?!" Of course I doubt that mantra will start...

Berger and his lawyer said last night he knowingly removed handwritten notes he had made while reading classified anti-terror documents at the archives last summer and fall by sticking the notes in his jacket and pants.

"It is my understanding that Mr. Berger shoved this classified information into his clothing to smuggle them out of the National Archives. Press reports indicate that Archival staff became concerned when documents began to disappear and specifically marked additional documents to track them. A number of those documents also turned up missing."

AP: Berger Steps Down As Kerry Adviser

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former national security adviser Sandy Berger, the subject of a criminal investigation over the disappearance of terrorism documents, stepped aside on Tuesday as an informal adviser to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

"Mr. Berger does not want any issue surrounding the 9/11 commission to be used for partisan purposes. With that in mind he has decided to step aside as an informal adviser to the Kerry campaign until this matter is resolved," said Lanny Breuer, Berger's attorney.

The investigation had threatened to become a political problem for Kerry a week before his nominating convention in Boston in which he hopes to persuade voters that he is ready to be commander in chief. The cornerstone of Kerry's argument against Bush is that he used faulty intelligence and poor judgment in waging war against Iraq.

Too long to really quote

I know but the point of my argument is that he did not inadvertantly put stuff down his pants like your post suggested. The only thing he "inadvertantly" took were the stuff he put in his portfolio, and all the other links you posted only further enforce my claim.

(of course I find that to be BS as well but I digress, how do you prove that you knwoingly took stuff and shoved them in all sorts of places and then accidently took stuff and put it in a portfolio?)

Yeah I stole all those but I never meant to steal the stuff in my folders. Whatever.
