un0
Seems that Ricky's recent retirement may be cut short. There seems to be an issue with his contract that has something to do with some sort of "Fine Print" that may force him to come back. Not that i or anyone wants him back cause he can rot for all i care, and im sure i speak for many of his x-teammates and not to mention x-fans in miami. The Dolphins will be giving Ricky a deadline to return to the Fins else they can choose to take an option stated in the contract that would hurt Ricky's pockets for 4.7 million dollars. HAHAHA !! Ricky hauled ass from Tokio last night when he heard the news and met up with his agent. Apparently, this is not over yet. Hahaha take THAT Ricky  Edited July 27, 2004 by un0 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/195726-nfl-rickys-retirement-cut-short/ Share on other sites

-=SD=-
The Dolphins' best approach, though, is to try to talk Williams out of retirement or force his hand financially. When the Dolphins acquired Williams in a trade from the Saints, they did pick up the contract and the right to sue him if he quits early. The Saints gave him an initial signing bonus of $8.843 million, and even though the Dolphins didn't have to pay the Saints for a portion of the bonus, they do have the ability to sue for him to fulfill the contract. If successful, the Dolphins would get a $3.3 million repayment for failure to perform. Williams is signed through 2006 and would owe the Dolphins three years. Unfortunately for coach Dave Wannstedt, it would take time to get Williams to reconsider and it's more likely Williams won't change his mind. In the meantime, the Dolphins have to make the best out of a bad situation. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?id=1846119 Just to add the source about this.. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/195726-nfl-rickys-retirement-cut-short/#findComment-584247904 Share on other sites
....
That would be worse for dolphin fans actually...sure...force him to play. You actually think he will try? heck, he'll fumble the ball over and over on purpose. He's done, Dolphin fans. Grade A Barry Sanderesque quitter. axis
Grade A Barry Sanderesque quitter. Are you calling Barry Sanders a quitter? I sure hope not, because that might be the stupidest sports comment ever. Lets see, he gave his heart to a franchise for over 10 years, become quite possibly the greatest running back ever (Jim Brown maybe). He quit because his team refused to get better, relying on him, Scott Mitchell and Herman Edwards. Wayne Fontes got screwed because of this too, he can't win games with mediocore players. I loved Thanksgiving because I knew every year that Barry Sanders was going to be on TV putting on a show. He didn't quit, he gave up on a team that refused to get better. That is like Archi Manning, so much god given talent, but he lost his whole carreer. IceDogg
The whole situation is just plain sad. I hate it for Ricky, I hate it for the Dolphins (One of the teams I like) And it's bad for the fans. All around BAD! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/195726-nfl-rickys-retirement-cut-short/#findComment-584253056 Share on other sites

axis
He was not a poor sport about quitting, he told them he wasn't showing up for training camp unless things changed. His dad can talk all he wants, because everyone knows it's true. Emmit, Barry and the rest of football. Emmit sure is making it hard to pass his total though, that big 250+ he put up last year. It is like Karl Malone staying to break the record, that girl in college basketball who broke an ankle or something, the other team let her do one layup to be the all-time leader. If you can not break a record without cheapening it, don't do it. I lost alot of respect for Smith. un0
About this whole Barry/Ricky thing... The difference here is that Barry didn't abandon his team in the same manor as Ricky did the Dolphins. Ricky gave no reason/warning for leaving. Simply slapped his team and fans in the face with his (dont even think you can call it an announcement being he didn't even have the balls to congront everyone on his decision) recent power move to leave. Barry on the other hand quit as well, but can he be compared to Ricky? I think not. At least Barry hung in and carried his loosing team for 10yrs i believe it was. Hey man, if I were Barry I would've hauled ass alot sooner. Barry didn't even much quit playing ball altogether. He just got fed up with the Lions managment and knew they weren't going anywhere. He wanted to join another team. (Dolphins being 1st on his list) He came close to being a fellow Fin, but there was noway that the Lions were going to let him off his contract. When people say the words 'selfish' and 'barry' in same sentence, they forget to add that the Lions were the only selfish part of this deal here. If they would've cared about Barry, they either would've made drastic decisions to build a better team around him, or simply let him go, and let him be the one of the alltime greatest RBs he could've been. Thats just to sum up this whole Barry deal. There's no comparison, at all. Ricky is just a plain Loser. People warned the Fins about him, but I guess this is what happens when you take a chance on a nucklehead doper. baseballpro9
I feel bad for the Dolphins coach Dave Wanstat(or something like that) his future in Miami is riding on this season. The dolphs can still get Trung Canidate, James Stewart, and a possible Ontario Smith. He only had 250+ yards last year because he was injuried early in the season (90 carries on the year). The year before he almost had 1000 yards with a LOT less carries then the year before that. So, before you make comments about something you might want to know what your talking about. :p And I watched all of his (Emmitt's) games no one ever gave him one yard. Even the recorded breaking game, the other team was set on him not breaking the record on them. He took a good beating getting the record that day! If you've lost respect for Smith you never had any to begin with. How did he "cheapen" it????
