digipoi
Tyson wouldnt stand a chance against Bob Sapphttp://www.washington.edu/alumni/columns/s...sttake_sapp.jpg Not this fantasy again. Tyson may be washed up, but he has boxing skills, Sapp does not. Sapp has size and no chin. Tyson has speed, experience, and a lil better chin (although questionable nowadays). Anyways, heres an update to the Tyson story. Tyson tore a ligament!July 31, 2004 Photos: Eric Williams It was confirmed today by MRI that Mike Tyson suffered a complex tear of the lateral meniscus in his left knee during his KO4 loss to Danny Williams. Tyson arrived at the airport today in Louisville in a wheelchair with a cast on his leg. He is expected to have surgery on the knee when he arrives back in Phoenix. Iron Mike tore the ligament in the first round of last night's bout which hampered the leverage on his punches. It is not known when or if the 38-year-old Tyson will continue his comeback, but promoter Bob Arum told AP that a four-fight $100 million deal he had planned to offer is now off the table. http://www.fightnews.com/702.htm 100mil deal with Arum? wow, bummer. Oh yeah, I think his debt exceeds that 39 million mark some are stating. Its funny when the only boxing news that pops up on Neowin sports is a Tyson fight. Shows us the undeniable. Hes has still got the biggest draw in Heavyweight boxing, win, lose, or (draw, disqualification, etc.) He will be back. Unfortunately. Whats even worse is Im starting to feel bad for the guy. BMac
Digipoi's right. Tyson could go with Sapp even though he's not in his prime. To address the actual question by noir; K1 wanted Sapp to fight Tyson in Las Vegas. The reason why this never happened comes back to THE INCIDENT where Tyson decided to see how Hollyfields ear tasted. He was banned by the state of Nevada and K1 has been struggling to work out a deal ever since. digipoi
Ouch! :pinch: Another negative look. MIKE LAYS DOWN BLAMING A BUM KNEE!Louisville, Kentucky ? The truth is in the line created at Louisville?s Freedom Hall Friday Night. Williams KO 4 Tyson. The world has been waiting since the summer of 1988 to see "Iron" Mike Tyson (50-5, 44 KO?s), the man who slew Michael Spinks in 91 seconds to claim the legitimate heavyweight championship, in the ring at full form again. After Friday, perhaps even his most ardent supporters will admit what Boxing insiders have learned since that fateful night?Mike is never going to be Mike again. After nearly KO?ing British import Danny Williams (32-3, 27 KO?s) with a sensational uppercut in the first, Tyson slowly receded in the fight until a series of blows in the fourth dropped him for the full count. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, IT WAS THE KNEE! Tyson?s people are now claiming a knee injury, and perhaps that is the case. However, Mike sat up during the count in the fourth and then decided not to rise. With all of his debt, all of his long history of violence, Mike chose not to fight. At 38, Mike Tyson doesn?t visibly is rejecting this career. Like Sonny Liston falling to the average Leotis Martin, Mike kept fighting slugs for cash until one of them slugged back. MIKE?S PLACE IN HISTORY SECURE? Tyson-philes swear he was great. I will swear forever he could have been. But he was not and is not. Unlike Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, and Larry Holmes, Mike never rose from the deck a single time to win a fight; he never came from behind against a world class foe to win; he never displayed the will and character to WIN when taking a beating. In other words, he never showed the true earmarks of greatness. Mike Tyson was the greatest?the greatest front-runner ever at heavyweight. Mike Tyson stopped developing against Michael Spinks and his cult of personality should stop developing now. Some are already claiming Williams was underrated. It?s not true. Williams is still and will always be very average. It is Mike who has been overrated for 16 years and whatever comes after 91 seconds! I must say, Tyson's eyes were "clear" when sitting on his butt in the fourth. One thing that I did notice. Although a case could be made for the knee. You could see Tyson squaring up too much trying to keep the weight off his left leg. And you all know Tyson's money punch comes from the left. Which would mean he needs his left leg planted to get that knockout power. Sorry guys, didnt catch the fight until tonights SHO repeat. Would never pay to wat:ninja:n fight a bum :ninja: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/197098-williams-overcomes-tyson/page/2/#findComment-584321371 Share on other sites
XanDaMan
You all make it sound like Williams did nothing. He IS a good boxer you know. Maybe not one of the greats, maybe not yet. But you should give him credit for what he did. Beating one of the greats... In no way am I backing up Tyson's case but Williams is really a mediocre fighter who, might I add, came in at the heaviest of his career to fight his most important fight. Tyson trained alot harder for this one and its quite sad that training ethics didn't play a better role for him. oh well.
