what's with you guys? Don't you prefer a quality product? i prefer to wait a little longer and have a product where as many bugs as possible have been fixed, than to have half of a product today..

i think microsoft wanted to include too many things in this service pack, instead of just fixing the existing bugs they created new ones, that's not good.. but hell, let them do their job at their pace..

Its not that people don't want a quality product though, it's because ms sets a target date then just keeps delaying delaying delaying.. What's the point of target dates if all you do is keep pushing them back?! It would have been better to not set a date and get everyone hyped up and release it when it's done properly..

of course i (and probably everyone else) prefer a quality product. but i prefer that the company just picks a release date and sticks with it. in fact, id rather they overestimate development time so they avoid so many ridiculous delays.

The link that was given for SP2 version 2179, it is only an 18 MB file.... how exactly does it update the OS from RC2, with only 18 MB??

I'm just curious before I install it, and I want to make sure I am downloading the right thing....

Thanks for the link by the way!!!!

I also think that it is bad for Microsoft to keep delaying stuff like they do...it's not just SP2 it's everything...but I do want it to be as stable and secure as possible, and I was not aware that this was the FINAL service pack for Windows XP, is SP2 the last service pack for sure????

i've downloaded it. It says "... this is not valid Windows application...." .

This is everything but not SP2. Most likely the file on that server is corrupt.

I unpacked the 18 MB one, and it's definitely XP SP2 ... but a VERY incomplete one ...

The real deal is 266 MB ...

Don't get knocky with Microsoft just because they delay a release, if they delay it a few days to fix a compatibility problem then so be it, I would prefer to have a working service pack rather than a service pack that needs patching a few days after release.

There doing a good job, so give them the respect they are due . . .

Depending on how bad the bugs are, this delay could turn out to be more than just a couple of days. Who knows ? I certainly don't, so I'm going to be a 2179 boy while we're waiting ...

SonicYouthXY, IMO you should be able to install on top of 2162

Yeah it could be more than a couple of days but as I say its better to have a working Service Pack than one that needs patching after release.

A lot has gone into this Service Pack and it should win Microsoft some well earned respect, then hopefully they should put all their resources behind the Longhorn Team, hurrah !

Thanks for the link! but the server is to slow! tried all the other links on that strange jap site lol still the same! servers down or just crawling!! hope fast link appears ASAP.

Got It In The End lol! Thanks Again! Now Time To Install.

Tried Downloading the 18MB Express Installer for 2179, didn't work "Not a Valid Win32 Application", tried opening it up with WinRAR and Extracting Contents, "Archive is Corrup". This File is Corrupt Boys and Girls! Don't Download it. You could try the 265MB one, but the server is unbielevably slow, I'm currently downloading at 423 Bytes/sec, lollollollollolol..... I know.. and I have got 512Kbps DSL!!! Slow Server!!! :o
