Cream, you need to respect the members of this forum... We may be regular users, and you may be a GOD DAMN moderator, but that doesn't give you the right to blatantly call us ignorant fools - for no reason.

There is a difference between an 'RTM' and 'GOLD' version of a product. As I have pointed out, along with others, there aren't any major changes... it simply is cosmetic changes... like removing 'RTM' to make the finished product look more professional and or presentable for the customer that will buy it. As you can imagine... simple little 'cosmetic' changes such as removing 'RTM' from the about box is not worth changing the numbers. This is why you can't tell a difference...

The fact that the difference is simply cosmetic, it's not worth all this arguing. For this reason, I will let you off the hook...

You can think what you will... call me stupid... believe you're right, but I know you're wrong. You can deny that you're wrong to save embarressment or you can simply deny it because you are truly ignorant... either way... It's over... so get back to your moderating.

He's NOT wrong, there were no changes to SP2, cosmetic or otherwise. The RTM flag is still there. And you continuing to argue the point after proven wrong (once again, the rtm flag is still there) is just making you look more ignorant than before. He's already explained numerous times that in 2003 Microsoft changed their naming convention for files such as this. If you want to mistakenly continue to believe that the Network install is in some way different, cosmetically or otherwise, than the Express install, you are free to do so. You are also WRONG.

Just to play along with you, since RTM is still there, what cosmetically is different between your so-called GOLD version and the RTM one?

This is NOT the GOLD SP2 it is the RTM trust me there will be a new instlation package in the future that does not include the RTM tag in the about windows

nothing about the service pack itself will change, however the GOLD release will not put sp2_rtm in the about windows

GOLD= final updates + final official install package wich will not come untill all MS pages move to directing to SP2 and the Windows Update Cd with SP2 is being sold

they did this with SP1 but it wasnt as highly scrutinized as SP2 so many people didnt notice

i have both RTM SP1 and Gold SP1 they are different belive me, however the files they install are completely 100% identical right down to the digital signatres of each individual file.

the only difference is the installer packag iself and that GOLD will not add the sp1_rtm or for sp2 sp2_rtm

You have no idea of what you're talking about do you?

Jesus christ u guys are still arguing with cream? GIVE IT UP.

Tom just put an end to this and close it, please. Stupid people make me go insane.

Ok figured this screenshot would shut this guy up:

You know what i wasnt even mad that Cream and Joel thought i was wrong

the fact is that Cream was so blantantly disrespectfull to me, there are messages all over Neowin that say that kind of stuff isnt allowed for members so why should the mods be allowed?

NeoBond needs to keep the staff in check if they cant do it themselves.

and when iu was talking about hacing 2 seperate version of SP1 i did not mean SP1 and SP1a

i meant RTM SP1 and SP1 Gold

there was a 2 day period where the only downloadable version of SP1 was the RTM that was Released on the Technet section of the MS website before the final Gold SP1 was released both files install the same version updates but the RTM SP1 had the same sp1_rtm in the version windows, and if you cant tell that MS has different sections of thier website that are still contained in the www.microsoft.com domain than your ignorant.

and jsut because Cream thinks because he works for IBM and wants to someday work for MS he thinks he is all high and mighty and infalable, well Cream your not.

I do Value your Knowledge and insight most of the time Cream but this time youve gone beyond the limits and let your head grow out of proportion.

ill make you a deal Cream

if when the SP2 (windows update CD) CD is released or when the official NON IT/Manufacture Network install for is linked from www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2 and the file does not have the same digital signature or the RTM tag of the current one linked from the technet section you give me an appoligy, and if im worng ill leave Neowin and never come back.

you people still think im trying to tell you the actuall updates themselves will be different in this GOLD version but i am not, im simply trying to tell you that it will come in a different polished candy coated wrapper, meaning a new install package without RTM tagging.

this is Windows XP we are talking about not Windows Server wich is buisness oriented and the RTM tag can stay on

here is the proof that the current SP2 is linked from Technet look in the top left hand corner for a technet logo

look at the two different links under where it says "Get the service Pack" one says COMING SOON SP2 for a single computer, the one under that is the same link to the page where we have all been going for the Network install of SP2 for IT and Manufacturing.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...n/winxpsp2.mspx

...

What's wrong with calling someone who is blatantly stupid, stupid? Nothing.

Can't believe people get proven wrong and yet still argue lol. At least the other guy gave up and "left Neowin".

Thank god i wasn't wrong

Oh and on one last note I just re-read your post.

at removing RTM for the customer. From your poor logic this "Gold" version will be released on windowsupdate and packaged in XP boxes and yet it's going to home users (corps already have the "rtm" version). What average home user is gonna go to winver and go "jee thank god they took out the RTM tag, phew". You really are thick.
