Because lossy compressions like .MP3 don't give you that "the way it's meant to be listened to" sound. .MP3, for one, tends to eliminate alot of the high end and low end frequencies depending on the amount of compression. Programs like this help "round out" what was lost as well as get rid of tinny treble and muffled bass, not to mention allowing a wider stereo experience that isn't capable with normal compressed music. Basically, it adds reverb up the wazoo. I have had nothing but dislike for things like this. If you are listening to an mp3 where something has been lost in the ripping, nothing can bring it back. I tried it multiple times in the past and spent hours trying ot adjust it and such, but in the end all it seemed to do was increase my bass until it was distorted and added that ugly reverb. I don't want my music to sound like it is in a bathtub. To me, listening to music in it purest, unaltered form, meaning no equalizing or any of this crap, is the only way to go. I just don't get it, I guess, how people can use this and say it makes music sound better. At least for my musical tastes, rock, it ruins the music. I shared your opinion, but i have just got new speakers this week and the minimum bass is still too much. I see this as a tool for complimenting different speakers. thop Posted August 22, 2004 Share Posted August 22, 2004 Buy some good speakers and get rid of the DFX crap. Good speakers does not necessarily mean expensive speakers. In fact many expensive speakers sound like crap because they do the same thing that DFX does: disort the music to make it sound better to the untrained ear, but instead it gets worse because it sounds unnatural.
