I saw the words "think about much more useful UI" and thought oh %$@#%#*$ please no....

I think leaving the UI alone for a little while and implmenting a 'basic' download from single source with pause-resume is really needed to keep the masses happy for a while.

You work hard Rus, on so many projects. I just don't want you to end up putting 3 years work into a great UI and finding it really hard / not enough time (eg. you might get a job with some big firm) for implementing the downloading engine.

But you know best.

*Laugh... Yea, I think well, the same too. UI is kinda "enough" for now. So, I need to make the 'basic' things. ;)

Thank you very much for your compliments! I .. wow ... have nothing to tell...

So: next step -- recode the preferences class, after the compatibility preference / app, next download engine.

I'd use this if it just downloaded files and let me choose where. I'd prefer multiple streams but one is enough.

I'd love this functionality:

1. Open Firefox (Download Manager is not open/loaded)

2. Click a link that Download Manager is set to download, say.. *.lua

3. Firefox stays at the page (no new blank tab/window or a new tab/window with a message "Sent to ..." I HATE that, hehe)

4. Download Manager opens minimized with some sort of notification of catching the download (Windows bubble-tooltip? Custom tooltip?). Something easy enough to notice even for a 1KB file. Notification of Start/Intermediate/Finished as well would be nice.

5. Download is sent to my downloader folder.

I'd use it if it did that :)

*cheers for Rus*

Roger that. I don't use firefox, but I'll try to make your wishes come true :)

Just a report: I'll publish today an application, called TrafficManager, I've made it primary for personal use only, but through some my friends clues, I'll make it available for all. (Stay tuned) Tomorrow, I'll jump into download engine coding. (I'll start with a separate project, so hopefully the work will be done faster :), since the app will use & check every function of the download engine.)

:) Thank you

Status Report:

Download Manager Engine has now basic download functionality. The transfer happens through a byte array :)

Integrating now:

A thread-based download structure, so on downloads Download Manager won't stuck.

I have a question before giving this a shot, but does this application allow a minimal approach where if I click on a download link in IE or FF, it will automatically d/l to my desktop without any manager popping up? Perhaps just a tooltip notification in the system tray icon on beginning and end...

Such a feature would be good, after Download Manager supports FF & IE:)) Thank you for this idea, btw:))

Nice, to see you working on this again. Keep us updated on your progress.

No problem. I really dislike download manager windows popping up automatically. I rarely need to bother with it unless its a particularly large file...and even then, I'd like to be able to access the manager via the tray icon to view the progess, mirrors, etc

Firefox's default download manager drives me nuts! I dont even want to be prompted where to download files to...

note that this should probably only be done for known/standard file types. Odd file types should bring up a prompt...

sorry to ask and ask, but do you have a release date?

Thank you for your interests. I can only say: "It's done, when it's done". I don't have any release date in mind. But it will be released. :)

I had a prototype application, which was kinda sorting files, so this should be a problem ;)

well, all these features should be options you can enable/disable. i.e. disable file sorting. or disable manager window on download.

The 'Enable/Disable Manager window on download' is something, what should be implemented... --> on my wish list;))

how long have we been waiting now?

585406601[/snapback]

Whoa ... a pretty long time man, pretty long.

Sorry for kinda "no report". I'm currently coding the download manager engine, and trying it sorta on other project ;) ... also, I've got a damn suxxx'ing school, we're writing test from MO till FR :/

if i've waited this long, then i can wait longer :) don't stress, put your school first!

damn, man... I know, how it feels :/. I really sorry about this :(.

Today's plan: Start implementing & "resume" coding download manager engine. (I got the download event till now)

Testing release / Screenshot maybe?!?! anything?!!?!?! Please

You will see it in the app which use the download manager engine :) and it happens very soon ;)

I really dont like it, that you must wait such a looong time :( I'm feeling so sh%tty about this :/ But it just cannt happen otherwise :(
