[olympic] **SPOILER**US vs Argentina

NBA players call themselves 'world champs' just by playing some other American teams. Gone are the days when Americans were the 'world champions.' They need to play international teams to become 'world champs'.

Anyway, well played, Arg. May the best team win.

The U.S team wasn't exactly made up of the best players they have to offer.

That about sums it up.

Is that a lame defence or what? You're saying duncan, iverson, etc. are a bunch of lame rookies? Other countries maybe had the benchwarmer if they were lucky. Those players make more then all the other teams combined just from salaries. Then there's the endorsements etc.

I watched many of the games. The fact is the americans lacked all the qualities of good athletes. They couldn't shoot, they couldn't play structured, they kept fouling (somewhat forgivable because of rules etc.), and they lacked passion. If they played unstructured and rushed and played like that, they'd be undefeated.

Salary doesn't equal skill. For NBA players the Olympics aren't all that important.

If they had the 'world champs' playing in this tournament, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Detroit would be owining all the others.

Ok, lets get this straight. All of the countries other than the US play together for years, while the US team joins up 2 weeks before the Olympics start. If you mix in 12 players from 12 teams, they will not click in due to their lack of knowing how each other play. That's like getting 12 new guys for Defense in football and expect them to play well in 2 weeks. Just doesn't happen.

ok guys, one thing to point out: the reason why we don't have our best players out there is because (doesn't apply to everyone, but just about) they don't get paid. our best nba players decline to play because they don't want to spend their days off practicing and playing for games they don't get paid. plus like many have pointed out, for the us team's players, it's mainly about display of personal athleticsm... i don't really know what they really think about winning as a team. and if you think about that on the flip side, many of these teams have build themselves up all their careers to beat or rather, kick team usa's ass.

i am rather disgusted by team usa's display of talent. the three point line is 3 feet inside of nba's regulation, yet they can't seem to make jack. i have no understanding why they didn't start shooting three's... sure they weren't having a good shooting game, but like someone else said, you can't just give up like a damn loser. some may argue that there were calls that were just really bad... yeah, but it didn't necessary decide the game.

anyhow, i am saddened by team usa's display. some people may defend team usa by saying that they've tried their best, blah blah blah, and how they shouldn't be receiving critical comments... but think about it, if they were winning instead of losing, people wouldn't be bitching.
