Windows loading (skipping BIOS) is round 20 seconds or so, give or take. BIOS check itself as well as the hard drive check takes around 20 seconds itself.

Edit: Laptop takes around 20 seconds tops including BIOS loadup thingy which takes tops, 1 or 2 secs.

About 23 seconds from post to desktop on the laptop loaded by my WD Scorpio Black.

About 33 seconds from post to desktop on the Athlon 64 build run by a Seagate 250GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0GBps brought down to 1.5 by the mobo.

I plan to upgrade the laptop with an SSD possibly by the end the year. I plan to replace the Athlon 64 machine but keeping some parts to make a Core i5 (maybe i7 depends on price) file server. I will do a RAID 5 + JBOD setup and have it shared over Gigabit and Wireless N @ 300mbps

Here is a very handy little tool that will not only analyze your boot time but it will also tell you how you can speed your boot time up. The first time I used the tool it showed a boot time of 1 min 05 sec. Then I made some of the recommended changes which improved my boot time to 39 sec.

Here is the link to the tool: http://www.soluto.com/
