[NBA] Pippen to announce retirement

 one of the best that ever played the game

(Y)

Score, rebound, block shots, steals, pass...and had some of the best defense I've ever seen.

He was always a professional, too. Never got into trouble off the court, always had respect for his teammates, and was a winner. It took me a long time to understand why he chose to sit out the end of that New York Knicks game in the 1994 playoffs, when Phil decided to give Kukoc the final shot.

I think this marks the end of the last great NBA generation. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy watching SOME of today's players, but the NBA was absolutely perfect in the 80s and 90s (save for the lockout). Reggie Miller is the only other guy I can think of that is still playing and having a positive contribution to his team (Malone won't be back this year).

He was the wind beneath Jordan's wings in my opinion. It's nice when your the greatest player to ever touch a basketball and you have another top 50 player backing you up. It's much easier to be confident.

I agree with soloredd. I grew up watching the NBA in the 90s and it was amazing. I think you are forgetting that Shaq is a holdout from the 90s too and he still contributes a little ;) .

I think the end was marked long ago, as half the United States didn't know he was still even playing.

couldn't have said it better myself

I still have my Pippen US olympic Jersey when he was on the Dream Team, granted it is not in the best condition.

I always felt he was terribly underrated because of his "Robin" Role, to Jordan's "Batman." I feel for Pippen because he is a great player, one of the greatest easily, but there will always be those questions of "just how great was he really?" because he was MJ's sidekick.

Anyone here remember the Inbounds play when he threw it off of the defender's back, caught it perfectly, and went right in for the dunk???

Others had done it before, but never quite like he did it. I just wish i remember who the guy was and what team they were playing... Classic Play, Classic All-Around Player.
