cultavix
OK. I am actually trying to do a very simple task and maybe some of you mega experts can give me a few pointers. I have a laptop that I am trying to backup for a few days on my main machine and then reloaded it exactly once I get it back. How could I go about doing this? (Basically, I was to preserve the registry settings and all of my programs exactly how they are)

paratrupr
There are lots of ways, it depends on what you need: In my experience, it is best to create an image of the entire drive, and the best way to do that is from outside of the OS. You can create an image file of the entire disk or partition and put the image file on your "main machine" if you boot to DOS, using Ghost or Powerquest. There are many ways of booting to DOS, including one with network drivers so you can create a share on your main machine and put it there. Or there are some IDE connectors that will fit on laptop harddrives so you can connect them to your main pc's IDE secondary channels and ghost it disk to disk. Agent Smit
You can use one of these to attach the drive to your PC and copy the drive that way. I think it's called a 44 to 40 pin IDE converter.
