Administrator Question

Recommended Posts

I always use my computer not as the administrator, but as a user with administrator priveleges. I recently decided to go into the administrator account. I found that my settings (like desktop, start menu, appearance) and my icons would not save. All of my desktop icons were of the AlienGUIse default icon. I assumed Iconpackager to be on (I have AlienGUIse from my User Account, but thought that Administrator would use Windows' default one's right?) I tried to put iconpackager back to the XP Pro default icons, but it changed it on my user account and not the admin one. Can I not have different settings?

I also have a Administrator.XXXX (XXXX=My computer network name) under Documents and Settings (as if it's a user), although I'm not networked at the moment (can I delete this one?).

The AlienGUIse must be applied to Windows Classic Style right? When I am in Administrator and I try to apply that visual style, I receive this error:

Error Loading Visual Style:

"The visual style could not be loaded because the files failed to load"

When I go and try to apply AlienGUIse to the Administrator, it changes it to a similar style to Windows Classic, but nothing is changed at all. I can apply other VS like Windows XP style and other 3rd party one's but Classic seems to be lost.

I can't place stuff in my recycle bin either.

Should I delete the Administrator account since it's so screwed up, and just make a new one and rename it? Would it still be "the" Administrator account, and not just a renamed User account? Sorry so many questions, it's just that the Administrator account seems pretty screwed up right now.

Basically I wanted to know how to make it so my Administrator account has different settings than my user account, and they don't effect each other's settings when changed. I hope this is relatively easy to understand, hope someone can help. I'm running XP Professional SP2.
