Jon
its cheesy punk. which is wat i said. Call it rock then. the fact is their way of thinking/acting is the same as any other punk stuff. They are more influenced by metal, slayer/metallica/iron maiden than punk. But musically, from a guitar point of view, its *identical* to the sh*t you would call punk, and thats the point of view I think from (apart from the odd track, like grab the devil by the horns, which shows their metal roots). Jon
If you spend your life trying to classify music, and put it in 'sub genres' , you're not going to have any time to really enjoy it. There are more important things, like .. "Is it fun" or "Is it stimulating". misecia
most of todays so called punk bands are just taking guitars wriths (:( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/22746-punk/#findComment-196537 Share on other sites
tobeh
sub genres help to identify different styles of music as someone could completly detest nu-metal but love thrash, so if you say i like metal who knows what sort you like?it helps to clarify things instead of saying some general statement like i like music. tobeh
mescia, i agree with you that some of todays socalled punk is very repetative and sounds the same, the lyrics could be better too! geek_rocker
sum41 is alternative, just like blink182, even tho i still like blink182.... some punk bands i like are dead kennedys, pennywise, antiflag, the ramones, and rancid are just some bands i like, for ska, i like ltj, mustard plug, skanking pickle, and mighty mighty bosstones... emo is also pretty good with bands like the weakerthans, thursday, jimmy eat world, saves the day, mxpx, ozma, etc and of course geek rock, weezer :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/22746-punk/#findComment-196567 Share on other sites
tobeh
nu-metal : nu meaning new + metal(a genre of music) from this it is easy to see that nu metal is a newer version of metal you should really try not to get so upset and try to think, its not called nu-METAL for no reason, i myself do not listen to it so you do not really need to say Its a term invented to sell **** to kids like yourself I think you should calm down, learn how to classify music and stop slating other types of music, if you dont like it you can say so but there is no need to swear about it and put other peoples music down. Jon
arg. this is what happens when you but music into 'sub genres' He just described sum41 as 'punk rap'. Probably because one idiot heard fat lip, decided it was rapping, so put them into that genre. IF you listen to anything else done by them, you'd feel stupid for calling it that. You then decide you hate an entire 'sub genre', and become a narrow minded, annoying, kiddy. Like most of the little skate sh*ts around atm. learn how to classify music QED. tobeh
well maybe you should stop being so narrow minded and try to expand some of your tastes by actually *listening* to some punk muisc. Sometimes people classify things wrongly, nobodys perfect. And everyone knows you have to listen to everything by an artist before you can properly classify them, even though sometimes artists cannot be put into a certain catagory for all of their musical carrer as they change styles and evolve.
