Help with Playing Media files through an AV System...

Recommended Posts

First off, my apologies if this is in the wrong group.

Now to my question. :-)

With a large server in our 2nd bedroom / office, I am looking for the easiest way to get media files onto our AV system in the living room. I have an Onkyo 777 receiver that if possible I would like to have some sort of input device connected to to receive media files from my PC.

Basically what I want is to be able to listen to MP3's or watch DIVX or MPEG content through my main system in the living room. What I don't want is my huge noisey server sitting in my living room.

I know I am obviously going to need some sort of networkign based component (either RJ45 in the walls or wireless 11MB). Plus I would assume some piece of hard ware to take that in and be able to output AV components (SVHS, TOSLink preferabley, but I'd make do with RCA's).

Any thoughts, ideas, postulations, insights, etc. would be greatly apreciated....

Thanks!

you don't need a super noisey server at all, get one of these:

would work great as a divx box, is actually quite powerful (900mhz cpu w/ 128mb ram) and is $750. has ethernet, so you just plug it into the network and you're good to go!
