Simple really Norton placed a bid on a pair of iPod socks and its got only a few mins to go.

on a serious note. WTF? lol who knows what they are doing. Could be a worm trying to get into your account from a cookie (if you even use ebay.com.au) and its masking itself as Norton's live update.. but who knows.

:D :D :D lol @ iPod socks, if what youre saying is true WinMac then this should get me really worried  :

I did what u said xinok but still I got this... only this time after clicking the actual LiveUpdate button in Symantec. is my Anti-Virus software infected?

It knows you visit ebay.com.au and it tried to go there. I'm gonna put a large bet that its a worm/trojan to get your ebay account details. Don't buy anything online till you know its 100% gone don't use ebay till you know its gone too.

also go here and do the Panda free antivirus scan (its all online no files to be downloaded) http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm

I can't bloddy belive it

my computer had 10 viruses on it and Symantec Anti Virus Corporate didnt even detect this.

I must say that Symantec is nothing but a waste of money and resources, what have I been thinking I feel like such a noob  I think ill be switching to NOD32 since I been hearing so much about it thnx for the site WinMac, helped heaps.

BURN SYMANTEC/NORTON BURN!!

Well man I just gotta tell you something based on the screen shot you posted it , it shows that you are using a old verison of live update , the verison i have is 2.5.56.0 so im just thinking that could be the reason.

Edit : Im using corporate verison 8 btw. I think 9 is the newest.

damn 10 lol you had a bad problem there. You should think about your current security not only from antivirus but how you got these Virus/Worms/Trojans.

Perhaps a Firewall would help, and also think about where you surf the internet what internet browser do you use & any P2P activity consider all these things and think about how you can make yourself safer.

And even though I hate Norton with a vengeance you shouldn't totally blame its failing on it just being rubbish one of the Virus/Trojan/Worm may have deactivated it (and it may very well have if one of the things was calling itself Live Update it may have targeted Norton specifically). But in either case try a different Antivirus :)

Don't laugh at iPod Socks, it's real thing coming in November...

Please don't take this as a sales pitch or trolling. I made the switch to TrendMicro and will never look back. I had my boss get Trend at the office and he now has order a 10 pack for the office laptops and home computers. It found and quarantined all sorts of stuff that Symantec didn't detect or could not get rid of. Trend will give you a competative upgrade/$25.00 rebate if you are moving from Symantec. I'm not saying it's the best thing since sliced bread, but from my experience, it's a much better product than the Norton stuff.

Norton/Symantec have gone down hill big time recently. Dumped them for Kaspersky Personal Pro a few months ago. Had a screensaver file saved on my computer for a couple years. Never used it though. Over the course of those couple years had upgraded my Norton AV 3 times. It never found anything anywhere. After reading all the "which AV is best" threads here, decided to try Kaspersky. It found the virus in that file instantly.

I was helping a guy with his PC. He has just run a full destructive recovery (has an HP) from a recovery set of CD's that he had made himself. Everything was working ok, then something weird sh!t happened (hence the FDR). WHen he ran the FDR from the CD's it was just made worse! He had a 1yr subscription for Norton which didn't expire for like a year from now. Norton only found "8 unknown items" but when we ran House Call, it found well over 200 and the number kept increasing! I honestly hate Norton, and don't have it at all! All I ever use is Ghost. I use AVG as my anti-virus, and right now I'm trying out Sygate as my firewall (found it on my hard drive)

Never had any problems with AVG and Sygate is working great! :woot:

well for anyone who does still want to use Norton AV its best to use liveupdate 2.5, live update itself wont update to this version you have to download it manually from website.

here is the LU page the full version 2.56 LU is the second one down

Panda rules :p I have had it for a few years now, there service is good, and each time you buy a new year license you get the newest ingarnation of the software you bought orignally. More features added each time. And it scans fast and is not a resource hog like norton is.

Also it has never fooked my PC up like norton did the first time I tried it. I learnt my lesson.

Has anyone thought it might have been old LU server IPs. I've had customers forget to update norton for a year + and trust the "automatic updates" After I do one manual update it starts auto updating again. I have a feeling those IPs were old LiveUpdate server destinations at one time that were not removed from LU's database. Thats just my 10cents.

ya, it's possible, especially since 1st ip is 203.59.140.18 and 2nd ip is 203.59.140.13. same subnet...

or it could be a virus/worm consecutively scanning ips looking for holes
