Dark Ride
Why is "DirectSound" being emulated ? I get crappy quality with it :pinch: I guess this is happening because of SP2, since I didn't notice "DirectSound" being emulated before I got SP2. Can anyone help me out ? EDIT: I use a "Creative SoundBlaster Audio PCI 128" soundcard Edited November 18, 2004 by Dark Ride Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244618-directsound-emulated/ Share on other sites

Phemo
Ok, goto Start, Run and enter dxdiag. Click the 'Sound' tab. There should be a slider labelled 'Hardware sound acceleration level' - make sure it's set over to 'Full acceleration'. tkyoshi
Where did you update your driver from? It still looks like it hasn't been installed. See the fields under "Drivers", all of them are blank indicating no driver file has been installed. Dark Ride
That screenshot was made before I updated 'em. Now after I've updated 'em (from official www.creative.com website) it sill shows only blank fields :( :pinch:  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244618-directsound-emulated/#findComment-584927750 Share on other sites
I8PP
Might not help, but did you disable that Intel Integrated Audio thing? I presume that's the onboard sound device which you should disable in the BIOS if you are using a true PCI soundcard... no point of it using resources if it won't be used. I will try formating my HDD and a clean WinXP install, after I get a new CD-R/RW so I can back-up my stuff. My CD-R/RW also suddenly doesen't work anymore since 4 weeks. Maybe I have a major problem, because this year my modem, CD-R/RW and now my soundcard turned into garbage, for no obvious reason :ninja: Could it be a problem with the power (electricity) ? JCAP
I think that the drivers you have installed aren't for your card. Go to creative and search the model name (for example ct4810) Quote "Emulated" - if you don't have proper DirectSound drivers installed for your soundcard, your device will show as "emulated" and DirectSound functionality will be emulated using waveOut functions (happens only with old OS's). If your device shows as "emulated", you should use waveOut output instead for better performance.http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=100492 Now about the power problem. It *sounds* like your sound card has been toasted. Windows can detect the card but there is no sound. I have seen this happen before. Go buy a new computer  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244618-directsound-emulated/#findComment-584935050 Share on other sites
