[Req] Tweaks for Faster Windows XP shutdown

Recommended Posts

Sorry bout the late reply....

Im not gonna make anything or look in those links because im looking for a guide not links. So please if your gonna help me out copy/paste or type up the guide for me. Thank you.

When a user shuts down Windows XP, first the system has to kill all services currently running.  Every once in a while the service does not shut down instantly and windows gives it a change to shut down on its own before it kills it.  This amount of time that windows waits is stored in the system registry. If you modify this setting, then windows will kill the service earlier.  To modify the setting, follow the directions below:

  1. Start Regedit.

  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.

  3. Click on the "Control" Folder.

  4. Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"

  5. Right click on it and select Modify.

  6. Set it a value lower than 2000 (Mine is set to 200).

Taken in its integral form from on of the sites you didn't even tried to go to.

OK first post edited to make it clear i want a guide not links....

Besides that tweak you just posted doesnt seem to work very well.....i have mine set at 1 and it accually takes more time to shutdown my PC than before (sometimes it doesnt even shut down)

Seriously.  Maybe you should reasearch it and make a guide to post here instead of being lazy and trying to get everyone else to do it for you.

Seriously, i would have done that if i wanted to. No problem but i am looking for this for my own use. Please dont post anything else unless its a written guide.....

If I find something, I will post it, but with that attitude, not too many people are gonna help you.

Sutdown XP faster 2

Like previous versions of windows, it takes long time to restart or shutdown windows xp when the "Exit Windows" sound is enabled. to solve this problem you must disable this useless sound.

click start button then go to settings -> control panel -> Sound,Speech and Audio devices -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Sounds, then under program events and windows menu click on "Exit Windows" sub-menu and highlight it.now from sounds you can select, choose "none" and then click apply and ok.

now you can see some improvements when shutting down your system.

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

2. Change the data value of the ClearPageFileAtShutdown value in the following registry key to a value of 1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

If the value does not exist, add the following value:

Value Name: ClearPageFileAtShutdown

Value Type: REG_DWORD

Value: 1

All posts started here must contain guides only, all other topics will be deleted

Altho that is true mods allow also requests for guides. If not they would have closed this thread by now. Besides as you see there are also other [Req] threads in the guides section.

Heh, good one.

I was gonna suggest this guide to shut down Windows Fast (usefull if the power cord is in a hard to reach area such as behind a desk):

1. Locate computer's power button (usually on the front of the computer).

2. Press and hold for ~4 seconds or until computer screen goes black (computer turns off), then release.
