Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD

Recommended Posts

well mine is running fine so far :D

however i did get abit worried the other morning, i switched the monitor on and i swore i had more dead pixels than the 2 i already had and the 1 blue stuck one :(

took out my microfiber cloth that i got with my laptop and gave the monitor a quick dusting

no more dead pixels!!! :D :D

i dont quite understand it, i suppose it must have been dust on the screen, but it was exactly covering 1 pixel... strange

anyway, i am down to 0 dead pixels and 1 stuck on light cyan which you never notice unless the screen is black for a good 5 seconds while you search for it :p

1 question, photoshop complains that the dell 2005fpw colours are broken or something, something to do with how colours are displayed, everything looks perfect to me, but does anyone know about this?

Sort of on topic.

Anyone (in the US at least), have this monitor hooked up to their cable TV tuner? My current box via Comcast (not using HDTV) just has composite out, and it looks pretty poor, even from a few feet away.

I'm considering of bying this from USA but im just wondering if anyone knows if it works in Europe as we use something like 220/230 V.

It'll work you just need to get a plug convertor.

Looking for advice - I have a PlayStation 2 and primarily play Gran Turismo 4. I bought a racing car setup (wheels, pedals, frame) and I would like to dedicate a monitor to it. Before I plunk down $500+ for one of these DELL LCD's, I want to get people's opinions as to the image quality. Would I be better off buying a sub $500 32" TV with component inputs or could I expect a similar quality of image from a DELL 2005FPW using the S-Video input?

Thanks!

for a console, you're going to get better image quality from a regular tv, especially with component connectionts.

Playing a FPS with 2 screens like that seems stupid. 3 screens? now we're talking.

It's not only stupid, it's also extremely hard because you have to aim on the black plastic

Anyway, it's awesome - you really get at feeling that you're in the game :o

Almost like TV compared to cinema.

I'm trying to find out if I should just go ahead and buy this monitor right now for $524.30 or wait till after June 2nd (when this 30% off offer expires) and then see what discount coupon I can get then?

I really do want this monitor, but, want to get it for a nice price, $524.30 is a nice price but if I can get better then I can wait. I am just not sure if I should expect a better deal to come or not. I don't want to end up having to wait longer if the next deal is not good at all or better.

Thanks oddcrap, I could not find the 35% off coupon I had earlier, didn't want the just 30% off coupon.

I just ordered it, came out to $456.85, then had to pay $28.55 tax (ugh!!) so I ended up paying $485.40. :) Not bad, but better then what I would of paid, so I can live with this.

It's http://www.pocketdeal.com and then I'd suggest you had over to here: http://www.fatwallet.com/c/64/ and wait till a new post like for example "Give away ::::::2 Dell Big Bucks $30 off $399" rises up again, so you can use it to your order. (I used this one with my order, forgot to mention how I got it cheaper, sorry)

Now remember, you need to be quick on using them, so do this when you are ready to order, because they are only one time only coupons when they are posted there. I was lucky last night to get one within a few minutes of only having to refresh, like 4 mins actually after having signed up, lol. Was nice.

Thanks. I'm not ordering one yet. I've been tracking this thread but still can't justify buying one. Maybe if my laptop had DVI or the dock supported the native res.

I've heard of fatwallet but not the pocketdeal site. Thanks.

What res does your dock say it supports? My HP NC6200 laptop dock says it does 1280x1024, but I run up to 1600x1200 fine. It uses your video chipset anyway, so it shouldn't matter much on the dock end (as long as it has DVI).

I don't have a dock but the IBM one says 1280x1024 also so maybe it will do the same. It does have DVI. That's nice to know. Later on I might have to consider that solution.

No problem man, thats what I'm here for (lol). Ordered mine yesterday too, came out to $430.00 shipped. That was only because I had 4 coupons going, The 35% off, A big bucks coupon, the free shipping -14, and an employee purchase coupon I had gotten from a friend which took another 10% off. If I had another EPP coupond I would have gave it to you. I'm just glad that I ordered mine, besides $486 is damn good when the retail is $749

:woot:

Sorry to go off topic (and double post) but, whats a good tool to check for backlight and dead pixel issues?

I use Dead Pixel Buddy to check for dead pixels, download the attachment, as for backlight problems I am not sure. Would like one too, if one exists. :)

For backlight you can set your screensaver to "blank" and preview it. Then you have a solid black monitor.

Starting today...

Coupon code S0BDZ6HBTFDPSL = 35% off,

plus $90 stackable coupon code C621VV5TS$75M9

To use the $90 coupon, you must buy anything that will push the total over $750 before using either coupon. (I thnk the monitor is $749.95)
