darkmark327
He asked if he could hook his playstation up to the monitor. You said The screen does not have built in speakers, so no mater which cable you buy you wont get any sound.? The Dell screen is just a Monitor not a TV replacement. implying that no, you cannot hook your playstation up to the monitor. Others pointed out that, yes, you can hook the playstation up to the monitor, if you buy the add-on soundbar and a cheap audio jack converter. You whined that you think some people on Neowin just like to pick holes in other peoples post because they got nothing better to do and everyone is always defending themselves. And I replied that you throwing a hissy fit doesn't help anyone. You said it couldn't be done, period, which does not help him because with the soundbar, it can be done. Reply all you want, I'm not going to debate this nonsense any further.
Johnr
Could somebody tell me where the big plastic sheet goes (Stating the resolution and a picture of a CD on) goes in relation to packing the monitor back up? It was loose inside the packaging with the screen unit, but to me it seems it would be rather easy for it to scratch the screen?
Vice
it has 2 small sticky circles at the top of that plastic sheet which sticks the sheet to the top of the monitor.

ricovetie
i got the 2005fpw yesterday ..i was pleased with the screen quality, a world of difference with my old 19"crt , no dead pixels.... only one thing that is bothering me..... yes the well know 2005fpw problem of the backlight seems they still haven't solved the problem ( manufactured in may, rev A01) backlight pic i compared it with some 2001fp screens and that gave me the idea it it unacceptable and i should return this screen ( normally i don't notice this backlight only with a dark screen , left bottom corner and right upper corner) .. although a new one might give me the same problem. ricovetie Edited July 2, 2005 by ricovetie

It's everywhere :p
Johnr
Could everybody with a Dell 2005FPW look on the right hand side of their screen (Next to the scrollbar) and look if the bezel on the right hand side (Black plastic casing) shows some metal underneath if you look closely (And you can push the plastic on that side in and feel it moving) Also, stand up and look down on the area where all the buttons are. Is there metal exposed there too? It seems badly designed to me if this is how it is on every model :(

Johnr
I don't think mine is like that. 586154138[/snapback] Hmm. Did you look closely at the areas, I can't get it with a camera as you only see it on close inspection Because now I have one person saying it is on his, and another saying they do not seem to have the 'problem' I'm gonna be well ticked off if I find it is in every build as I'm going to be without a TFT for a week or two from Tuesday :pinch: (Apart from my old 17", but I packaged that up the other night and can't be bothered getting it back out etc)
Ripe
Oh my god.. I found my old PSX today so I plugged the composite cable to my DELL.. This thing looks really bad! I mean, on 1:1, not FILL, it's a really small rectangle, unplayable, but looks good. But when you set it to FILL or ASPECT it's like stretching to 1680x1050 and it looks terribly bad, really :( I thought with this screen i could play consoles.. but i see it's not possible, and S-Video wouldn't just look much better. So is the solution a VGA BOX or something?
darkmark327
No, it will still look just as crappy.
Ripe
goddamn this sucks.. i don't want to buy a new TV screen just for the consoles.. when i bought this screen i thought i could play smoothly.. I hope LCD's someday are made for non-native resolutions so you can lower your res and look good not choppy..

Granted it still doesn't look great but it doesn't look as bad from farther away. Composite does look like absolute crap; S-Video does look a lot better, but still not great. Ripe
Do you think it would happen the same bad things when playing with a LCD TV? a 17" TV for example?

I would think your best bet for quality is get a good tv tuner card for your system and run the monitor at a higher res while letting the capture card "upscale". Johnr
Well I managed to package up my monitor The sticky circles were useless for keeping the plastic screen cover thingy in place, so I just stuck a load of sticytape on the four corners of the screen  I noticed when packing the monitor that there are 3 'screws' in the back, and I could only see 2 that were there. I think they forgot a screw on my screen and therefore the panel was loose. Hope it arrives back woth Dell safe and sound - I always get really worried when my package is with the couriers :pinch: Then again they probably won't even look at it.. Now to get used to my 15" CRT :x

And the All-in-wonders now have a delay of about 200 ms from live TV so they have become useless for gaming.
Gotchaforce
OH MY GOD!!! i was playing gunbound today (1st time in a while), and had the game on aspect (so it stretched while retaining aspect ratio). I was staring at the top of the screen where the background is a solid dark color (dark red or dark brown usually). My mozilla 1.6 browser navigation bars BURNED INTO THE LCD!! ill try to snag some pics.

Ripe
hey. look at this: http://www.pccables.com/70717.htm considering a different 17" LCD, connecting the rca of the playstation to this vga convertor and then to the LCD monitor.. would still look as worse as on the 2005FPW 20" ?
