0 Keldyn
From what i remember this separate 8mb is usually created when installing win2000 or XP. It creates it as some sort of separate partition during setup ( i think ) . I wish i could tell you more about it, but all i know is its relatively harmless and nothing to worry about. I have only used PM a few times but can you not just simply merge it with one of your other partitions ? ~Keldyn Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/2477-partition-magic-help-needed/#findComment-15923 Share on other sites
0 ElGato
Not sure what it is, but I can tell you it's not a problem as I've always had the same on my second drive with no ill efects, so I've decided to ignore it. If it ain't broke, don't "Fix" it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/2477-partition-magic-help-needed/#findComment-15945 Share on other sites
0 infoman
as Keldyn say, i had all win xp setup files in my d partition i used them to install xp. after i deleted xp and back to w 98 , w98 setup scandiskked and found file error in d partition. so i let it to fix it. i think all because of win xp. so now there is an option undelete in pm7. should i use it ? i dont wanna use it before to be sure about safety of my data because all my backups in that partition. 0 ElGato
I'm sure mine was there without installing Win2K or XP, and I allready tried to udelete and it says no partitions to undelete. It kinda bugs me sometimes with all these "clever" proggies, they give you so much info you just have more things to worry about. Ignorance is Bliss :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/2477-partition-magic-help-needed/#findComment-15965 Share on other sites
0 Keldyn
You shouldnt be able to delete it as the space is unallocated. In other words it is not formatted as a partition so to speak. But yeah, i have to agree, ignorance is certainly bliss. Your safest bet is to just leave it be. Its harmless. And what is a meagre 8mb to you anyway ? ~Keldyn Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/2477-partition-magic-help-needed/#findComment-16076 Share on other sites
0 MulletRobZ
Ugh! PartitionMagic was the worst partitioning utility I have ever used! I find that I'd be able to do a better job partitioning with DiskDrake, included in LinuxMandrake! I also found FDisk not good because it would recognize my Fujitsu 30.7 GB Hard Drive @ 5400 RPM as only 8 032 MB! The same happened to PartitionMagic! So I needed to use the Fujitsu Disk Utility in order to get my hard drive recognized correctly! So my advice is is that if your hard drive is a Fujitsu, don't use PartitionMagic! 0 baphomet_irl Veteran Posted October 15, 2001 Veteran Share Posted October 15, 2001 ok maybe with fujitsu HD's dont use PM, but ive used it at LEAST 20 times on my triboot system, and have never had ANY probs.... the one thing I would recommend is that u run the prog from boot disk thou - running it from within windows can be dodgy also it's handy to have the boot flooppies there as backup all the time.... 0 MulletRobZ
Hmm ... Maybe I'd give that a shot, but I doubt it'd work. And then again, the PartitionMagic I was using was way out of date (4.0) ! Does version 7.0 support Fujitsu Drives, I wonder? 0 Keldyn
Whenever i need to create partitions i put in my Linux Cdrom, Mandrake 7.1 or 8.0 and use its own partitioning tool. I agree with Webgraph, Diskdrake does indeed do a much better job and it supports a much wider variety of filesystems. Once i have created my partitions i just cancel out of its setup routine and reboot.;) I even carry a copy with me for this very purpose when i am about town doing repairs on peoples comps. :) ~Keldyn Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/2477-partition-magic-help-needed/#findComment-16496 Share on other sites
