How drastic are the graphic changes in the new patch?..after waiting 3 hours for updates to complete i had a quick go this morning.

I could barely play the game it was so choppy. I dropped all the graphics down to the lowest and it was only slightly better, even the cursor was sticking.

I have the i5 MBP with 4GB memory and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. Surely this is capable of running the game on the same settings i used before the update?

Wait for Mac OS X 10.6.5 to be released - that makes it a bit better.

Also, the "same" settings might not be actually true ??for example, maximum view distance is a lot higher now, so you might need to turn that down, etc etc. Also, turning off pretty new water helps.

10.6.5 is due soon?. Apple never pre-announce dates for minor updates.

That said, developer previews have been coming out for quite a long time, and the latest one is pretty stable. I'd be surprised if we didn't have it by the end of next week.

Not happy, my MBP should be more than capable of playing WOW... if this change is due to the update then they are cutting out a lot of their user base.. no doubt.

Thats fine. Those are just the ones that aren't good. They won't be missed.

I don't know about you guys but running WoW in DX11 mode gives me wayyy faster/smoother frame rates, as well as the added bonus of world reflections on the water. Looks amazing now.

For those that don't know how to do this .. go to your WoW folder, open up the WTF folder and open Config.WTF in notepad. Add in SET gxapi "d3d11" and save. Note this will only work if you have a DX11 capable video card and either Win 7 or Vista.

Will have to give this a go tonight. Completely missed that in the patch notes.

I was actually able to log in today. It seems that the Windows 7 firewall must have been blocking one of the ports or one of the wow files despite them being whitelisted AND the firewall disabled. I installed Comodo, whitelisted wow.exe, both updaters exes, repair.exe, wowerror.exe, and launcher.exe. I also opened up ports 1119, 3724, 6112-6114, 6881-6999, 4000

Everything worked fine for me after that. So in some weird way the windows firewall even disabled must have been interfering. Since Comodo overrides it, it was able to open the ports properly.

I'm not familiar with the issue you had, didn't read most of the poss post-patch.. but, if it was this:

When you login to your account, you get to your character screen and select your main (for example), the loading screen reaches "100%" and then appears to be frozen, you can still hear sounds such as the guild member logging in/out.

After several minutes you will be disconnected to the login screen.

So if that's it, I don't think it has anything to do with our Firewalls, I can login just fine when I create a new character, in fact I can login fine to my low level alts just fine.

Maybe it has something to do with the world server, or at least the zones our mains are, like Dalaran, Orgrimmar and such, they may be overpopulated at the moment, or just hammered by login attempts or whatever.

You were the one with unable to connect right?

check realmlist.wtf if its correct.

I reinstalled the game and haven't even been able to play once. I don't seem to have that file in my directory, I'm assuming for that reason.

No, I had the issue where I enter in my username and password, then the game would crash instantly with no error. I know it was the firewall settings that fixed it for a fact as this has resolved the issue for a couple of other people I've encountered with the same problem.
