Vince Carter to New Jersey

Recommended Posts

Looks like Vince is finally getting out of Toronto. The deal doesn't include Kidd. Could a mod please take that out of the title? Thanks.

The New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors are awaiting league approval of a trade that would send Vince Carter to the Nets, according to several league sources.

The Raptors would acquire Alonzo Mourning, Eric Williams, Aaron Williams and two first round draft picks in exchange for Carter. The trade cannot be announced until the NBA approves it for salary-cap purposes, which could happen before the end of the day.

All trades must be approved by the league office and players must pass physicals before they can become official. Carter is currently on the injured list with a strained left Achilles' tendon suffered last Friday and is to miss at least five games.

You messed up the title, Kidd isnt going anywhere...

If the trade goes through, it would be the most serious indication yet that the Nets want to keep Jason Kidd and are willing to build a championship contender around him. After the offseason trades of Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles, Kidd expressed his displeasure with the direction the Nets were taking. However, with Carter on board, the Nets have a shot at moving back into contention.

According to one source, Kidd was briefed on the trade and thinks Carter will be a strong addition to the team.

The two first-round picks the Raptors are to receive in the trade were obtained by the Nets from Denver in the Kenyon Martin trade.

One of the pickes, which was Denver's first-round pick in 2005, is protected if it is pick one through three in the 2005 lottery.

The other, which Denver obtained from Philadelphia before trading it to the Nets is protected if it is pick one through eight in the 2005 lottery and one through five in the 2006 lottery.

A backcourt of Kidd, Carter and Richard Jefferson is a highlight reel waiting to happen. However the Nets will be very thin up front. After the trade, the Nets would have just Jason Collins, Brian Scalabrine and rookie Nenad Kristic to play on the front line. The move has more interesting implications for the Raptors. Both Aaron and Eric Williams are the type of players that Sam Mitchell is after. They are tough, blue collar guys who will play their hearts out. Mourning gives them some size at the five that they desperately need. However, it will be interesting to see how Mourning reacts to the trade.

He's been asking out of New Jersey all season because he wants to play for a contender. Whatever you think about this trade for Toronto, it's tough to say that it turns them into a playoff caliber team. Instead, the Raptors are trying to surround their star young player, Chris Bosh, with solid, veteran players who play the right way. The two first round picks should help them rebuild.

Bad trade for Toronto....good for NJ, but they still suck :p

EDIT: Lol, you edited the post right before I posted

If this deal in the long run ruins toronto, this might be the blow to the organization, and might lead to another canadian sports organization leaving for the USA.

wow..you donnu much about nba and ball do you?

vince is unhappy..we had 2 trade him..and dont worry..zo is not gonna stay long in toronto...i almost 90% sure that another trade is coming very soon..and its going to be rose...jones...zo and a 4th player...maybe draft picks..maybe a three way deal..i donnu...but heats wanna trade a bad contract for another...rose for jones..both are playin CRAP..but jones is MUCH better D player..rose cant simply play any D @ all...zo wants 2 play in a championship team..and heat has a very good chance indeed....i think the fact that rob (raps gm) could do this deal while vc having CAREAR lows in everything..and be on a IL..and get TWO FISRT round picks..is GREAT...you guys really look @ just jerseys man...eric is a decent rebounder..raps need that..and a.williams is a consistant hard woking player...and thats EXACTLY wat raps need...this it self is not a good deal..BUT..if raps get rid of zo and rose....ill tip my hat to rob...

guys..to be honest with you...i kinda felt bad after i watched some of old VC tapes...i was like awwwwww..we kinda grew 2gheter u know...but vc is lettin tdot down..askin for a trade..and crying like a baby...still..hes AIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRR CANADA! gonna miss him...vince..thanx for all the great moments, dunks and buzzer beaters...good luck on jersey dude..honestly..i will be happy for him even if he goes on and gets 30+ points per game avrg:)

he aint got the groove no more, way less drives and DUNKS. air canada isnt what he was before. i really hope the trade could give him a spark, spark him back to the air canada he was before.

man the injuries.

Erm, Carter doesn't exactly want to play there. I don't get how it's a bad trade... they get two first round picks out of it, and some decent to solid players. Carter would have left one way or another. I think it's fine for the Raptors. Once they get the two picks, they'll be in good shape. They've already got a semi-decent young foundation.

its not that bad of a trade. wince is overrated anyways and underachieving, williams isnt so bad and 2 1st rounders..

As much as I live in Toronto, I've never heard of him being referred to as "Wince" Carter. That's great.

Mourning was just a salary dump for NJ. Essentially we got Eric Williams, some other guy also called Williams (Aaron in this case) and two first-round draft picks. It'll annoy the local sports annoucers to have to deal with three Williams on the team (along with Alvin). Luckily we traded away Jerome Williams last December. That would be just too much to handle... :D

No one in Toronto that I know cares about Vince anymore in the first place. Hes just a whiny little idiot that bitches and moans when he doesnt get 100 billion or more on his monthly pay.

Besides, basketball isnt even a big thing compared to hockey around here, so I dont really care if the Raptors die and wither away (imo)
