Make sure all the external connections are secure and reinstall your sound drivers.

External connections are secure and I have reinstalled my sound card drivers.

That is the weirdest thing... if I move the slider up and down (Master Volume) it has no effect on the volume but I noticed it sounded loud at certain bits. I moved the slider per pixel and now I have full sound unless I move it (look at the screenshot). Bizarre :|

Ive got this problem at the moment too, it used to be that I didnt need to turn my speakers anything past a couple of clicks, now they need to be two thirds of the way round

No major upgrades to hardware / software recently, it's really beginning to bug me.

This can be a number of different things. I find personally this happens over time when the wires start to get old which connect your speakers to the machine. In this case it is best to buy new speakers.

The other thing is that you need to try upgraded or downgraded sound software. Also playig with the options within control panel etc.

With my sound card i had real bad problems even when i set everything in the control panel sound options i would not get full sound. I found out that there was some software i ahd to install on the machine which give you extra options on the sound which Windows does not give you. It was really fiddely but i got there in the end.

Sorry i cant be much more help but i am sure you have a software problems there, which may be resolved by installing any extra software which came with the NVidia sound card.
