in messenger under connection when I use help for connecting messenger it says that I need server name port numbers and even passwords. I`m not as familier as I`d like to be on these things. It says to contact your system administrator for these settings but I wasn`t sure if there was a way to aquire those settings without going to the admistrator for what seems like it should be so simple to do. Plus I would like to know for myself. In messenger under options and then the connection tab, at the bottom it shows that messenger could not connect because you are not connected to the internet. but when I use IE I have no trouble connecting to any site. FYI Win 98, with IE 6, messenger 3.6 and my internet connection is a T1. Thanks for all your help?:ermm:

Oh! I think you can retrieve the network settings for Windows / MSN Messenger from any application that requires access to the Internet. All programs demand the same network settings, as I have found when I experimented with many Internet-based applications, including ICQ! You only need to type in the proxy server information if your connection is not direct (Eg. Connecting via a LAN) .
