Theme Hospital Multiplayer with IPX on Windows XP

Recommended Posts

if i remember correctly you need to get the latest patch for it which will enable the multiplayer option (and different skill settings for single player)

no clue why they didn't include it out of the box but meh..

and then as said above you need to install the ipx protocol on your lan connection :)

Hi

I've managed to get this working. I'm running Windows XP SP2. I have a Linksys WRT54G router running DD-WRT. My notebook is connected over Wifi and my desktop over Ethernet. For each network connection, I set the IPX Frame Type to Ethernet II and the Network number to 00000001. You have to restart the Windows for this change to take effect. In Theme Hospital use the DPlayIPX multiplayer option. One of the players must create a session. This session should immediately show up on the other players' screens. The host (player who created the session) can choose a scenario and start the game.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy!

Hi, i have the same problem. I would be very glad if i could play Theme Hospital via internet, i?m waiting a lot of years on advice.

I have WinXP SP2 and I have installed the IPX Protocol and it still get "There is no IPX Network Found" (but now works at least Atomic Bomberman via IPX protocol)

ismailra: your advise unfortunetely didn?t work :-(

You're going to have to tunnel it over normal TCP/IP, which luckily is actually quite easy.

http://www.morpheussoftware.net/git/ claims to do it, it's 2-3 years old though (and i've never used it so I have no idea how well it works)

I've run successful games of Theme Hospital using this method:

Install Hamachi from https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en

Install the IPX connection on the 'Hamachi' connection as follows:

Select the IPX connection properties, and configure.

Now all I need is someone to play with. :pinch:

Hey been trying to get Theme Hospitial working firstly in just a internal network then if that works trying to change that to the internet. Now first thing I have had 3 multiplayer games played! I actually managed to achieve that quite impossible goal but it was using GIT and also over an internal network.... the problem is the fact that it was 2 years ago, i've changed computers and my mate has move interstate..... *sigh*

Now I currently don't have my computer with me nor a friend in this house to try with but I will later

Now moving onto my point in regards to Meraki using Hamachi (I use this often with other games and it works like a treat, playing Warcraft 3 over the internet with my mates or some of those other weird games that I seem to have aquired) now would this also work with internal LAN networks? Say if I change my settings to how you described there but use my network card instead? Would that still actually work??

Will await the reply lol

Sorry to double post but I thought I would actually kill this stupid thread while I am here lol

Meraki is right Hamachi is the best thing ever invented, you do not need GIT or any other program (well i never did)

Also it works for both internal LAN's and the internet as it's acting as a Virtual Network anyway. After about 2-3 years off and on I finally got the solution and I was using the program heaps of times before that... go figure.

Anyone who wants to know how to run Theme Hospitial over the internet just follow Meraki's instructions and make sure that no other network device have the same Network Number. And before you ask I played this first over the internet before playing it in a LAN. Hope this helps all who need it
