MIAMI -- With no plans for a playoff, the Bowl Championship Series will consider using a committee of college football experts to set the next national title game.

"I have to tell you, I really do not see an NFL-style playoff coming to college football any time soon," BCS coordinator and Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg said Tuesday.

Weiberg also said the BCS will search for a replacement for the Associated Press poll to help rank the top teams.

About time they get rid of the AP Poll. Now, the only flaw I see there is if they put in guys that favor certain big schools over others.

This will only be worse than the current setup. Now we get the opinion of MANY people to decide, their new plan bases it on 10 (proposed) people. That means it's much more likely to have bias or corruption than the current system. A playoff system is THE ONLY way to go.

talking with bro last night made me realize...

[20:13] nw|BroChaos: but in cfb, no matter how much you improved, no matter how hot you are at the end of the year, if you lost your first game, you are out of it

[20:13] nw|BroChaos: even if you could destroy every team that is still undefeated, it doesnt' matter

[20:16] Toxikk: :/

[20:19] Toxikk: never thought of it like that

[20:19] nw|BroChaos: i mean, everyone knows the answer, just don't lose

the bcs is dumb and i hate it.

I don't think there will ever be playoff in NCAA division 1 football. What is the point if there are only 2 undefeated teams at the end?

But then you look at the game right now - almost half time and OU is getting embarassed 28-10. Looks like Auburn should have been there and not OU.

Yea, I mean, Auburn did prove themselves right against VT and blew them ou:rolleyes:s:

Utah vs. USC anyone?

At least Auburn has a pass defense (besides that one long bomb). I don't think Utah could stop USC offense, but you never know.........

38-10 @ the half - this is pathetic!

utah played a team that should not of even really had a bcs bid though...

20th ranked Pitt?

But they still won their game by a blowout. As a matter of fact, they blew out everyone starting with Texas A&M, which was their first game. They deserve a shot just like Auburn does.

more reason for a playoff.

but i have heard no mention of utah, or auburn tonite really.

its a shame. imagine how much more money tv stations could make if you had a 3 week playoff or whatever.

2 weeks even. superbowl aint the biggest even outta the year for nothing. just seems like the bcs always ****es someone off.

Nice way to put it, BOOG. Every year, the BCS will screw someone over, but I sort of agree with them. I just cannot see a playoff in college football. Kind of messes up the tradition and makes it look more professional.

Mixed reactions here :s

**** tradition. the tradition sucks. you gonna tell me the insight.com and capitol one bowls are traiditon? playoff is the only way to fix it. a +1 game helps, but still doesnt fix it. At the end of tonight, there will still be 3 undefeated teams. and you cant convince me that every one of them doesnt deserve a piece of the title or a chance to play for it.

:laugh:h: 55-10 no:laugh:h: yay US(Y)Y) I think what they should do is stick one more game in, so like USC and Auburn would now play each other and whoever won would be the national champion. So like there is a match between the top two bowl winners:yes:s: That's really the only thing that can work.

Come on, L3thal, we all know you are more intelligent than that.

Utah would get rolled by USC. You don't need to blow a team out to prove you can beat them. Cal almost beat USC, Cal got murdered by Texas Tech...would Tech be close with USC? It doesn't work that way.

SC is just the class of college football right now, period. Auburn would give them a game with their great pass defense and more weapons on offense.

Why are you so sure Utah would get smashed? Utah has the second best offense and their defense isn't far behind. I hate when people claim that a mid-major school will get romped on because they're mid-major for no reason. The fact is, if Auburn wants to be a co-national champ, then Utah has to be one as well. There's no way around it.
