FaRSightxc2
Tottenham Hotspur were denied a clear goal today when Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carrol fumbled Pedro Mendes' shot over the line. The ball bounced a clear two feet behind the line, but the goal was not given. Full story here Is this now enough to force the FA to consider allowing video replays to assist referees in games? I used to be an avid believer that this would spoil football, but now I am not so sure. It would make the game a lot fairer and would stop mistakes and cheating (such as diving) from ruining the game. Your views please :) ( We were robbed! ) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/266864-soccershould-video-replays-be-brought-in/ Share on other sites
Steve
As soon as i read the first two or so lines, i knew you supported Spurs! - Before your sig had loaded. :p IMO it doesn't happen often, so no i don't think it should be implemented. Well unless you are talking for any kind of incident. Even then though, i think if they did that, the game could become very stop start. Whatever next? Hotdogs, Cheer leaders and Time-Outs?? No thanks, lets keep this game, true to it's roots. Oh, and please don't call Football, Soccer, it's embarrasing. Next you'll be dropping the U in colour, or spending Centre wrongly. You're British, Football is Football to 95% of the world, Americans shouldn't dictate the name of a sport we embraced. neowin_hipster
Okay, sports like Hockey and football have video reviews. I don't watch much soccer but i can tell you that it's worked in those sports. The only problems are constant reviews so there must be a cost to it if a team requests one. Eg: costing them a timeout,, delay of game penalty if the call stands. nexx
It may 'slow the game down', but at least you will get the true result. And maybe if they started bringing in replays every time some idiot takes a dive...they might stop trying to get free kicks..and the game may actually finish earlier. ambiance
Yes it should, and yes the Spurs were robbed a clear goal. We beat Everton so thats ok, but even if they got the goal, it still isnt a good year for them. OPaul
No replays, it'll ruin the game. Soon football will turn into American football where everything is so damn strict you can't sneeze without getting a foul. L3thal Veteran Posted January 5, 2005 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2005 No, replays should not be allowed. Soccer is too fast paced to stop every 5 minutes because teams and refs argue a call. Keep the game the way it is, it has been like this since the late 1800's. A compramise between full video assistance and none at all. They want to introduce goal-line technology to stop this kind of thing happening in future, but also not ruining the pace of the game. The game will not need to be stopped if this technology comes into place, thus allowing the game to have a fair outcome withough ruining the nature of the game. Apollo
i think FIFA could give it a "test-run" on some championship to see the best way to implement it. ckempo
Goal-line tech has got to come in soon, just to prevent situations like Spurs last night. Typical Old-Trafford refereeing though. threetonesun
Why not just have guys in a booth watching the goals at all times? Something gets clearly missed, they can call for an override. It's not like soccer has a lot of complicated things going on at once. Offsides, but that's not terrible if it's missed (unless they score from it), intentional penalties/falling are still ref calls, but goals should be watched. AndyW
Well just by looking at my avatar you'll know my response to this. :D I agree with what Fergie has been saying about the 30second limit. If no decision can be made... play on. Its normally pretty obvious one way or the other in less then 30secs. Goal line video is a must in my book, anything that could or could not be a penalty should also be considered. Not only for defenders handballing in their areas, but also the divers that try their luck. Maybe each team should be allowed one chance to go to a replay per game, so they dont get silly with it. But the Goal Line and Penalty area should be monitored IMO. Anyway Farsightxc2, a point at Old Trafford... not too bad. (Y) I was saying before the game if we take a point from Man U I'll sleep very well. So I can't rant too much. Damn annoying still! :argh: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/266864-soccershould-video-replays-be-brought-in/#findComment-585238865 Share on other sites

adcmarti
I am not a big soccer fan, but I definately think they should have replay. I saw the highlights of that goal.
