My OSX Jaguar Experience...

Recommended Posts

I got the Jaguar DP1 today, I tried to do an upgrade, and first off, the computer goes black and when i finally get it booted up again it would go to a blue screen and have the mouse up in the top left frozen.

I ended up having to do a reformat...i did a clean install of it. The install went fine, but I've found the OS is pretty buggy. Crashed alot, and many apps wouldn't work for me. However, i did get to play around with it, and it has a lot of new and great features. I ended up having to reformat and go back to OSX.1.

Just a warning to those thinking about installing Jaguar at such an early stage in its development.

crud, hehe, if there was some ss, maybe some creative artists we have here will make stlyes outta it. know what i mean? :D

...All in all though, it looks like X.1! the only Differences are Enhancements to the Dock, With Thumbnail views, and the Lack of Lines in the Dock! ... As for Aqua itself, it remains intact! ...Some more app's now take the Metallic Brushed effect, but there's nothing REALLY to inspire a new theme! :( < sigh >

NeYo

one thing MOST windows users think that jaguar is the name of the new ui. there is no ui there is just more of a brushed metal look on most of apples apps. *not like that is new* plus 10.2 is gonna be nice any version that is out no its buggy and isn't even worth getting hyped up about. 10.1.5 which comes out soon speeds up idisk and a few other things.

I have always wondered about the transparency effects on macs... how is it compare with window's transparency? does it slow the system dramatically if... let's say a full screen window is set transparent?

try it your self

use Glass2k, if you have win 2k/xp

hehe, thanks but that's not what I mean. I have XP and use Power Menu instead of Glass2k.

What I am asking is how is the transparency speed on Macs, I do not have one, so that's why I am wondering.

And you take that answer and compare with 2k/XP's transparency.

hehe, sorry my mistake.

But it has more to do with you processor then your OS, transparency never slowed me (Athlon XP 1800+ :p )

The transparency is flawless, at least it is on my iMac. I guess part of that is the OS being heavily optimised for Altivec I the G4's, but even on the old iMac's, transparency is fast.

As for jaguar, I had it installed for a while, grabbed a few things, apps, screenshots, etc. then went back to 10.1.x. It broke too many apps for me to keep it.

The thought bubble at the bottom appears when the other person is typing. Like MSN does.

I only hope either you can use MSN on this or someone hacks it to allow it. It's got file transfer as well, something Mac-PC MSN doesn't have.
