surely microsoft will implement into the search the ability to use their new WinFS file system, obviously if they code that in a future release the scan speed will kick?

The MS one ran quicker than Ad-Aware and Spybot usually do (I ALWAYS do full scans).

I noticed that many registry keys were picked up as well. As for the poster asking about MsgPlus - There is an option to install a "sponsor" with it, which is full of spyware.

With spyware scanners, the more the merrier. I'm constantly using Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Hijack This. I'll add MS Antispyware to my list now as well.

I didn't use Ad-Aware, but I knew of it's existence. Now I'll user MS AntiSpyware, I liked it ;)

P.S.: Messenger Plus! as a Spyware? You forget to read Microsoft's annotations on the right of the screen, didn't you? :D

Just a question to the reviewer.

If you ran both these scans at the same time on the same comp (which is what it looks like from the screenies atleast) wouldnt one of them have to be slow cause the other had gotten dibs on the HD's juice?

What i thought was rather cool about MSAS were the real time protections (basicly the same as SpyBot Immunize).

I currently work in the techsupport field, and some of my "little friends" nannying their host file, and about:blank settings.

Well i suppose its basicly the same as spybot and ad-aware, but from what i can see, it is a nice alternative.

PS. The SkyNet remark made me disable SpyNet... SCAAAERRYYY!!

I really like this so far I installed it on my brothers computer which is pretty infested lol. I run Ad-Aware on it the other day but it didnt detect anything but some cookies. However as soon as I installed this and enabled the realtime protection thing it detected a bunch of stuff and removed it. So far so good :)

MS Anti-spyware looks good.period

The real time protection just like spybots "teatimer" is a nifty feature.

I hope they dont get it bloated & most importantly keep it free.

From my personal opinion these comparisons dont make out anything from them atleast for now.

I tried MS AntiSpyware tool today and I would like to point out two things:

I have Microsoft Agent installed and MS AntiSpyware recognizes Microsoft's own Agent install of L&H TruVoice TTS engine "tv_enua.exe" as "WhenU.SaveNow" Adware.

Infected files detected
C:\WINDOWS\lhsp\tv\tvenuax.dll

Infected registry keys/values detected
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{B8F2846E-CE36-11D0-AC83-00C04FD97575}

Just so you know and don't go deleting that file...

Also, interestingly enough EVERYTHING with regard to Patchou's Messenger Plus! is regarded as Ad-ware. EVERY file (yes, even the language .ini files and developers.txt) ALL registry keys are detected as an Adware bundler. I do NOT have the sponser option installed.

I know technically speaking MS is right in saying it is a spyware "bundler", and although it is ignored by default, it is marked as High Threat (in red!) and seems to me as an attempt to scare people out of using Messenger Plus!

I noticed MS`s attempt to get people to delete MSNplus off their systems - not very subtle,eh? ;)

...just use the dropdown on the summary page & select "Ignore always"-stops MS Antispyware from detecting it again.

I tested Microsoft Antispyware and I think this is better than Ad-aware and Spybot.

So, it?s neccesary to have installed Ad-aware and Spybot.

What?s ur opinion??

About it showing Msg plus as spyware...it identified a plug-in for it as spyware. I got a really nasty piece of spyware this way that would not go away until I removed the plug-in.

I use Spybot and Adaware at the moment, Firefox seems to have helped reduce spyware over last few months though so I don't seem to be gettnig much. I think the general advice on these things is use more than one?

I don't like Ad-Aware - it just misses too much stuff, largely due to the fact it was the most popular for a long while and then they hardly updated it.

I like Microsoft's Antispyware, especially the protection against programs adding themselves to the computer startup.

Damn, I don't get this. I have never, ever, ever had spyware unless I accidentally clicked "Yes" in an ActiveX box back in XP SP1.

Why do people get it frequently? I just don't understand!

I bought the MS version about 6 months before they bought the Giant company.

The reason I bought it was that it found crap that all the others missed...

Unless MS really screws it up, I'd go with that one. But, it's always good to have

a layered approach. I use the MS version, and spybot...

i compared these 2, plus spybot, but i was told i was being bias, because of the fact ad-aware 6 finds ad-aware, and spybot finds running processess, programs and .dll's.

microsoft anti-spyware is really weird. the last few weeks i scan every friday night, and microsoft finds nothing, ad-aware finds a few things, and spybot simple always finds what it needs to.

and ya we all knew about microsoft treating Messenger Plus! like a spyware program.. THATS BECAUSE IT IS! only if you ACCEPT the sponsor...
