Yikes, jaggies and low resolution textures. And here I was going to hold out for the PS2 version too.

Will there be a PS2 version? Why would the GameCube cover say "Only for Nintendo" when it's not going to be only for Nintendo? Anyway, I'm going to pick up this game for sure... screw the C# book I need for class; I'll just buy it on the test day (open book) use it for an hour and return it at the campus book store.  Nintendo is just as important to me as my education. :p

I have 2 questions for those of you with the game:

Does it support 16:9 widescreen?

Are the controls like the old resident evil games where you press up on the control stick to move the character forward in the direction he is looking, and down to walk backwards, or do you point the stick in the direction you want the character to move? I really hated that sh!t

hey, this is the gamecube, and not the old PSX, with pre-rendered backgrounds.Of course it doesen't use the old control system.

I can see it now:

RE 4: now with long load times and bad frame rates!

You, sir, are on crack.

I played 2 and a half hours today... and I don't agree with jmole at all on the AI or difficulty. It's really, really easy. I died a few times at the beginning coming to grips with the aiming system, but after that it's been smooth sailing. And the first boss was a total pushover. He hit me once- ONCE. I came into this game expecting a challenge. Does it get any harder? The only thing that's given me any problems at all is balancing what items to keep in my attache case.

That's not to say it's a bad game. It's very creepy. And it's got some terrific action.

Still, when you can upgrade a hand gun to take down dozens of blood-thirsty mutant Spanish villagers, things seem a little... exaggerated. But hey, it's the fun that counts, right?

I didn't mean to give a negative impression with my last post. I really do like this game. Compared to all the other REs, it's like a total revolution. It's not so much a slow-moving horror game as it is a fast-paced and fun action/shooter. And when I say fun, I mean really, really fun. And the story- from what I've seen so far- is shaping up very nicely. I'm thinking something pretty serious is waiting for Leon not too far down the road...

But it's just so darn easy!

What difficulty are you on? It gets much harder on chapter 3 after you leave the jail area. Trying to keep the president's daughter alive while fighting off waves of monks is pretty difficult.
hey guys, i only got a ps2 but i love RE4 and wondering if i should get GC just for the RE4??...not that i dont have enough money for it...its more like GC dont have many games thats my type....(im a RPG,action adventure  fan..point out some out good GC games thats rpg, action adventure that ps2 dont have?) thanks guys

yeah go an buy a gamcube. i have owned all other systems and nothing in my opinion compares to the gamecube. its got great exclusive titles which is hard to find on the ps2 and xbox, there is still some third-party support which is all you need.

The system is cheap, the games are cheap and its almost as powerful as an Xbox.

Atleast if u buy a nintendo, youll know that youv got a company that cares more about great games more than money.

Well, you got Zelda (WW and the new one coming up), Metroid 1 and 2, and there are other many, many great and exclusives out there, like DOnkey Konga (You may think it's not your type, but it sure is a lot fun, trust me), Viewtifull Joe (Which is cheaper on GC and you get to play the best part, number 1), F-Zero, a great, great game, and tons of more games. And of course, All Mario games.

Is it just me or is this game really difficult? I don't know if it's because i've only had my gamecube for about a week now but i can't get past the first little village, I just get myself stuck in a corner and the stupid chainsaw dude manages to kill me. I know i have to keep alive for a certain amount of time then they just leave when the bell goes but is there any specific houses i must run after the first one?

There are some videos at IGN played by Mikami that can show you how to play that easily

You're an even bigger fanboy than me, (which is good :D :p ). Gotta love Nintendo, they make the best games, and focus only on fun, not cheesy sequels

Back to topic, I only hope my RE4 gets here before weekend, I so desperately want to plaay it !!!

Yeah i did,  i just get a little overun in the buildings. Also does the chainsaw guy die? or does he keep coming at you.

The chainsaw guy can be killed, just takes quite a bit to do that ;)

No. The game is letterboxed, but it doesn't support anamorphic 16::(:(

The camera is always behind Leon's back in this game. So while yes, up still moves you forward and down back that feels perfectly natural with this camera.

I am confused about this whole 16:9 thing.

If you have a 4:3 TV you will play it in 16:9, but if you have a 16:9 TV it won't fill the screen? Is that what you mean? Difficult to say what I am thinking I gues

I might have to rent this first to see what the heck is going on

I'll clarify then. On a normal 4x3 tv Resident Evil is shown letterboxed, it may not be exactly at 16x9 resolution, but either way the black bars are there.

Now, if you play the game on a 16x9 TV with progressive scan enabled, the black bars are STILL THERE. It's taking the complete 4x3 image (with black bars) and horribly stretching it to 16x9. There is not a native 16x9 mode for Resident Evil 4, which is a real shame. Most progressive scans will switch the image to 16x9, but since RE 4 does not have an actual widescreen mode, it will not display properly. Now, if you have a tv with a zoom function and progressive scan, you can get rid of the bars and play with the 16x9 filled up, but it is not the same quality as a full widescreen mode. However, it's still pretty good and all the reviewers say it is better to play the game this way on a 16x9 tv than regularly.

I'm five and a half hours in and you're totally right! The game really steps up a notch once the monks come into play!

I'm on normal.

I have just got to the big lake with the very fun battle with the 40ft crocodile, I haven't really had time to play the game much so i have only clocked up about 2 hours on it. I must admit though when i was complaining about the difficulty but it is alot easier now, i think it was because i wasn't used the the aiming system and GC controller.

There is a part in the 3rd chapter, I believe the first part when

you have to protect the presidents daughter as she is on a catwalk trying to raise platforms in water. Well you have to snipe out the monks attacking her while also killing monks who are attacking you. It is just insane switching between a shotgun and a snipers rifle like every second trying to protect your ass and hers.

That took me a few times to beat.
