What is your all time favorite operating system?

While I like OSX, and I run WinXP, my personal favorite OS was a beta build of Windows 98 my brother received from Microsoft.

It ran every piece of hardware installed on it. Never had a BSOD. Never crashed. Always ran perfect. Never had an install problem.

I swear it was the magical OS. And it never timed out... ;)

We were so excited when Win98 went gold, When our copies were delivered to us, we backed up, formatted and installed...and ran into days worth of issues...so much for a final release!

If you have to, please specify an exact build of your favorite OS.

I've never been in doubt about the Mac communities ability to rally and hold their own. I'm certain if this thread takes off we will have the priviledge of hearing from the one button crowd, en force.

Well, the RC1 version of XP made my mind up to leave win9x behind. I threw everthing at it including the kitchen sink (and what a mess that was!). Except for waiting for a XP driver for my TV tuner, everything worked. And I threw a bunch of old dos games at it. Worked like they were suppose to.

Woot! First to vote BeOS!

When I started using R4, BeOS renewed my faith in a computer's ability to go further than you expect it to, and surprised me in a lot of unexpected but DESIRED ways. XP did supplant it on my home system, since it can now do many of the things I got used to in BeOS (though there's still a partition hidden away with its name on it).

However, I'm looking forward to seeing what the user/developer community can do with an open source version of the BeOS. Oh yeah, once it takes off, it should at least be a fun ride.

windows 2000 advanced server runs awesome on my system.

various hard drives, and components, work smooth no crashes or lock-ups, uptime is perfect.

All my applications run strong and constent, and with an overclocked video card, everything is nice and cool.

I really do enjoy good ol windows 2000.

Yes, I like many others, try to forget about those two OS releases everyday. Have you ever had to work at a CAD station running Windows3.1?

Have pity on me...I still suffer from the nightmares...
