I [like dead zombie] find it funny that a Canadian would use the term American - and not include themselves. Normally, when US'ers refer to themselves as Americans - and assume everyone knows they mean the US - its a shining example of that american arrogance. As far as I know, United States of America is the only country with the word 'America' in it. So, your nationality is shortened to American. Technically, your country should be named United States of North America, to use your logic.
