IceDogg
FYI: He's signing a "ceremonial" deal with the Cowboys to end as a Cowboy (didn't click the link to see if it stated). The Star-Telegram reported a few days ago (and a while back) that he was strongly leaning towards retiring. And, no offense, but it was his time to retire... a few years ago it was, in fact. 585410176 I have to agree that it is time. I sure hope his health hasn't been let go for him to go a few more years. I have nothing but respect for Emmitt.. Never been so empty at another player leaving before.. I guess cause he's been playing most my adult life. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/280219-goodbye-emmitt/page/2/#findComment-585410863 Share on other sites

The run agaisnt the giants (the spin) is among the 50 best plays in NFL history according to the NFL. This guy doesn't know Emmitt, obviously. Troy Aikman's toughness? That's something I never thought I would hear in the same sentence. Emmitt was tougher than any Cowboy during that period....he missed like 4 games.....2 by a contract dispute...in 13 seasons. This guy obviously has a grudge or something. Ayepecks
I'd say he knows Emitt since he's personally met and talked to him on numerous instances... I'm pretty sure he's done a few interview sessions with Emitt (one-on-one), too... I'll look for those. I think Cowboys fans just aren't willing to accept that while he was a great player, he did look out for himself a lot of the time. I have a very good friend who is a media personality in Dallas, who actually has spent hundreds of hours with the team, and more specifically with Emmitt, as he was my friend's 'favorite' Cowboy... This guy covers the Cowboys for a living, and has full access to them from training camp to the postseason... Now, we may be talking two ends of the spectrum here, but to say Emmitt isn't tough pretty much debunks the entire article for me. You just don't gain 166 yards on the ground AFTER you have a 2nd degree shoulder separation. Just doesn't happen if you aren't tough Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/280219-goodbye-emmitt/page/2/#findComment-585421644 Share on other sites

Emmitt was tougher than any Cowboy during that period....he missed like 4 games.....2 by a contract dispute...in 13 seasons. This guy obviously has a grudge or something. 585420127 Article: No, Emmitt Smith went to war, but he was mostly there to polish his own rifle. In a now-famous game at Giants Stadium, with the NFC East title on the line, Smith separated his right shoulder late in the second quarter, yet played on. Oh, there have been far worse actors in the NFL's annual Sunday melodrama. Smith was no scoundrel. And he was a great football player, a remarkable one considering his lack of speed and size. He's not calling Smith a bad player, and he's not saying he wasn't strong. He said he wasn't as strong as Irvin or Aikman, true, but he was, by no means, calling Smith weak. He specifically stated he was strong, but only for himself. Second-hand information is second-hand information -- an article from a person who's met with Emitt on numerous instances is second-hand information, just as listening to a friend who's done the same. ....
And the very next line: He rode that reputation, that alleged resolve, for 11 more seasons. In truth, he lacked both quarterback Troy Aikman's toughness and receiver Michael Irvin's passion. Lacking Aikman's toughness proves that this guy doesn't have the first clue what he's talking about. Ayepecks
That or you don't... it's all a matter of opinion when you say Aikman's toughness versus Emitt's. IceDogg
I don't see how anyone could question Emmitts Toughness.. it's like saying he wasn't that good, it's just bull. Did you see that Giant game where he played with the shoulder injury.. I did watch it. And you could tell he was in a great deal of pain and he just kept going. I'm not sayng Aikman isn't touch.. I'm just saying that Emmitt is touch! Aikman took some hits that I thought would end his career and he got up and walked back to the huddle, so he's also tough. I don't think any PRO player would make it long if they wasn't tough. I have to much respect for Pro Football to think that. Just my 2 cents. Don't let them get to you BOOGSoftball, they just say this stuff to get a rise out of someone. They themselfs know it's bull. Ayepecks
Honest question: did you read the article? He never said he wasn't tough. He said he wasn't as tough as Aikman. He also never said he wasn't tough, but that he was tough for his own personal benefit. And, no, I do not know it's bull... tell yourself that all you want. I'm not trying to get a rise out of anyone, I'm merely stating it's an article I agree with. All the Cowboys fans here praise him to no end, so why can't a non-biased sports fan (who lives near Dallas but doesn't have a favorite NFL team) post an article that doesn't praise him? He said he lacked Aikman's toughness. Aikman was a glass QB. Emmitt....missed 4 games in his Cowboy career. 2 by contract. That's tough. Aikman...missed a couple seasons aggregate......Emmitt got hit more often. I wouldn't call him non-biased....more like non-informed. Ayepecks
I was referring to the previous poster. And, I was referring to myself with the non-biased Dallas-area resident. Aikman was a glass QB? Yeah, I'd call him glass. Call it asinine, but I at least gave reason for my thoughts. Aikman got hit far less than Emmitt, plain and simple. Back up your penny thoughts, instead of spewing disagreements with no support. Back up your penny thoughts, instead of spewing disagreements with no support. 585425833 No BOOG, the fact of the matter is you're extremely biased and wouldn't find any of my opinions worth reading, simply because you're too obsessed with Emmitt Smith to give them any credence, thought, or even look at the post containing them. Aikman not getting hit as much as Emmitt? How about you back up that. I see no facts to support this, "plain and simple". It's not plain, and it's not simple. You cannot back that up. How about not spewing disagreements with no support, eh? Missed a couple of seasons, huh? Well, I'm not seeing that: http://www.aikman.com/foot_pro.shtml If you're going to call him a glass QB, at least get your facts straight. Him suffering numerous concusions does not make him a "glass" QB. A lot of his "lost" starts are from backups getting playing time, as well. You just won't respect an opinion if it's negative on Smith. We've had numerous topics not related to Smith before, and you've commonly brought him into the conversation (such as a previous Barry Sanders topic in which you basically [not saying you came out and said it] that Smith was a vastly superior player to Sanders and that Sanders isn't worth an ounce of respect because you thought he was demanding a trade -- something that I debunked, yet you still refused to believe, because you didn't want Smith to have any valid competition). You've done nothing to prove your point, then you come to me and say the exact same of my posts. Perhaps this is true (well, I never denied it, now did I?), but at least I can see that. You, on the other hand, can't see your own shortcomings simply because of your love for Smith. You give faulty facts to back up your claims, as well... where does it end for you? Answer: it doesn't. You'll always think Smith is amazing, no matter what anyone says. No one will even get a fair say in otherwise. There's no denying that Smith was a great player. But there is denying if he played to himself or not. It's a simple matter of opinion. Edit: Oh yeah, are you forgetting about Smith's comments about him being a diamond surrounded by trash? Would you consider this a classy move? It was rather obvious he meant them, even when he apologized. Yep, he always was looking out for his trash, eh? ....
Wow. How many times was Aikman sacked? Hit? They don't come close to the amount of carries Emmitt had...or the hits he took before getting tackled. Simple football knowledge, Scorp. QB's don't take near as many hits as RB's..... Classy move? Well, it was true. Should he have phrased it differently, probably, but he didn't leave his team in the lurch like some other touted RB. He stuck through it. Joey992
As a non-Cowboy fan I don't really care for Emmitt, but as a football fan I respect what he did in his career. I just wish that Barry Sanders hadn't turned his back on the game because I would have liked to have seen him be the all-time leading rusher.
