Surround Sound for Super Bowl?

Recommended Posts

Ok, here is my newest perdicament (that needs to be solved QUICK!):

I have a regular Phillips TV and a Sharp stereo surround sound sysyem, Currently my DVD player is connected to it but I want to attach it to my TV so I can actually get it in surround sound (thank Fox for that). Where would I plug it in?

[R][r][R][R]

This is the back of my TV/\. Lower case letters are where my DVD player is connected.

you NEED satellite or a digital terminal to get surround sound.

just hook up the box's L and R audio plugs to the back of the surround sound reciever and it will do all the work for you.

Works for me.  I love surround sound.

What? Hooking up only L and R can not give you surround sound. It gives you stereo sound.

certain modes on receivers can try and split a 2 channel input to atleast 6.1 channel surround sound.

that's most likely pro logic, but that still isn't surround, it's stereo that is simply sent to other channels.

yeah i know, but regardless it's still better than the tv.

This is true but he was asking for surround sound, and the advice given (not yours) was obviously incorrect since a left and right stereo channel does not equate to surround sound.

Yes your current TV can only output in stereo but as others said it can be split into 5.1 sound via PL2 and/or DTS NEO. Now the only way to get Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is from the Fox DT feed or the feed they use for HDTV and this feed isn't the same as the analog feed. Trust me that if you watched it with true 5.1 sound you would have been screaming about how botched a job Fox did during the superbowl. I taped it just for fun because I went to the superbowl. Lets just say they had the surrounds going crazy so you couldn't hear the announcers or at least with my setup the fans yelling from the surrounds just killed any talking. My system is setup because many other events didn't have this horrid problem.
