stew
Hey guys, I have found an old projector on eBay here in the UK. The model is: Proxima DP5100 (the page on the Proxima website about this model) However to save you having to downlaod the pdf heres the rough specs which I think are needed for a judgment: Resolution: VGA - 640x480 LCD Panels: 3 TFT Colours: 16.7Mil. Response time: 30 - 50 ms Contract ration: 200:1 Brightness: 300 ANSI lumens Lamp: 250W Audio: built in 3W Connector wise its got 2 RCA for video and the same for audio (2 inputs, both left and right for each input source), it also has 2 VGA connectors and 2 S-Video connectors and 1 BNC connector (wtf is this?) Now I have no idea about projectors themselves having never used one. This one if I were to buy it would be hooked upto my xbox for watching movies and playing games on thats about it, maybe tv as well but I dont know if I can hook it up. I'll be sitting it in my room, and so the 3W sound would be okay but I was wondering if it would be possible to hook up a basic surround sound system to it or if I'd need to buy a seperate kit for that and input my sound direct from the xbox and dvd player into the sound system? As for price, well its sitting at ?10 jsut now although I reckon it'll go upto about ?30 as that seems to be the final price for most projectors of that spec. Whats it actually worth. Rob2687
Don't expect anything spectacular.... the scrap parts off it are probably worth ?10 though:pp Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/282466-found-an-old-projector/#findComment-585436879 Share on other sites
Pink Floyd Veteran Posted February 9, 2005 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2005 no because of that Brightness: 300 ANSI lumens unless you project image in a TOTAL darkness and even that, im not sure Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/282466-found-an-old-projector/#findComment-585437140 Share on other sites
bangbang023 Veteran Posted February 9, 2005 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2005 Yeah, it's simply too dim to be able to get much out of. It was probably meant to be more of an office projector than anything else. Mando
Youll probably also find that the Bulb is worn out. hence why its @ ?10 average price of LCD Projector bulb replacement is around ?100-?500 depending on model & make. dont touch it with a barge pole m8 its a waste of money. For one your Xbox will work in some games with a projector but not all (if its not chipped & de-macrovisioned). games like Project Gotham Racing 2 do not work through an LCD due to Macrovision protection. stew
I sent the guy an email and got a reply with a photo of the projector in use and the EXIF info was dated yesterday so I know the bulb still works. I might bid on it if its still ?10 at the end of the auction and just see if it's any good, it's only a tenner after all:)) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/282466-found-an-old-projector/#findComment-585439104 Share on other sites
