why does this remind me of the dreamcast? didn't something like this happen? everyone raved about sega's brainchild and then sony released the ps2 like a year later or so and the dreamcast just totally died. for some reason, i don't think microsoft quite understands how the gaming market really works. it appeared that the xbox was a failure in japan because it was aimed at the average all american frat boy. hopefully xbox2 will offer more than just a media center and then i might consider buying it.

I personally think that Xbox 2 will be good - but same dynamics as PS 2 vs Xbox. Some people here will like PS2, some will like Xbox. Japanese people will continue to buy PS's, American gamers who wish to play mainly sports games, etc (frat boys, so to speak and halo lovers) will buy Xboxes.

It should be interesting to see how good the specs are on each though :) Competition is inherently good for the consumer.

I'm definitely getting both an Xbox 2 and a PS3, although I'm still on the fence about the Nintendo Revolution. I didn't pick up a GC until about a year ago, simply for the fact that there wasn't anything to play for it. I finally decided to grab it so I could play Zelda and MGS: TTS.

And there are two reasons that the Xbox failed in Japan: first off, because MS didn't have any major Japanese RPG developers on board with exclusives that would sell systems, and secondly, because the Xbox is f'ing huge. I don't care how much anybody likes the system, nobody can say that it's a svelte, aesthetically pleasing machine. It's just a huge box.

that pretty much sums up what he said. he didn't really answer the questions about Nintendo. and from what this story said. he more focuses on console power over everything else. Hes also not afraid of the PS3.

There is also something else he doesn't seem to be talking about. something "innovative" but what could it be? could it be as mysterious as the Revolution? as for my thoughts ont he PS3. Sony wouldn't be stupid not to make changes to their console.. they MUST have something innovative in it besides games and graphics. From the roumers on the other consoles and this, it sounds like the X-box 2 will be on par with its competitors.. if not a little behind (innovation wise). Graphic wise, i don't know.. it would be a tough race for the PS3/X-box 2.

Nintendo is also Japanese, just so you know.

nah.. if i want to play sony games, i'll keep my PS2. and Nintendo isn't dead. Just because you don't like them means they are dead. I love my gamecube, you don't. Nintendo set the right price for their console.. and its got the right party games for my friends and I. Nintendo is here to stay, they been in the console market longer than Microsoft/Sony/sega?? just because they have one system you don't like doesn't mean that they are going to be drop dead horrible.

I dont hate nintendo. I have my GBA and gamecube sitting here. Because a few people love them doesn't mean they will live. They don't have the sales numbers :s . They have like 13% (random number but its close) of the market I beleive it is. Sony and microsoft are litterly rapeing them (sry for the language) but tis true.

If all you guys think that Xbox is just Halo and Live, you are are dead wrong. Can your console host a server? Can your console hold 200+ dvd quality movies? Can your console copy rented games to itself? Hell with PS2 you need a damn add-on just to be able to plug a ethernet cable to it. All I am saying is that Xbox is the best thing since TiVo and with a couple of inexpensive upgrades, you can get the Xbox to be the do-it all console that we will never see again. And for all of you that are going to flame me and say "blah blah blah its just a computer", I will agree it is just a computer. But have you ever been able to get such good resolution using a video card with s-video out? The xbox makes it so much easier to watch movies and even stream music and videos off of a network. Its hands down the best and no one can argue that. BTW when is the last time you were able to play 1000+ nintendo games without having to blow on a single cartridge?

i don't know.. in my neiborhood and with all my friends put together. I would say X-box and Nintendo are neck and neck. (you got to consider kids.. it does have kiddy titles.. yes).. my friend thomas owns a x-box. his brother owns another x-box.

thomas likes the x-box, thinks its the best console.. and its his only modern console. his brother micheal got an x-box as well, he bought it to play HALO 2 lan with thomas, but when i asked him what he thinks of the x-box. he said he only bought it for LAN, and wishes he got a gamecube over it.

my friend kevin owns a x-box and PS2. he bought his x-box in summer, he got tired of it and is always wanting to play my gamecube. He never liked his PS2.

My neibor tim got a X-box for a christmas and the same year his younger brother got a gamecube for christmas. it seems though, tim plays more of his brothers gamecube. and his younger brother plays tims x-box more. Strange? :p

i put names in to try and get rid of confusion, but in my neiborhood. Gamecube is about tied if not a little more than x-box and PS2. I got a PS2 and Gamecube. I don't have a need for x-box. and i don't care for x-box controllers. I am a fanboy, i admit.. although i have had plenty experiences with the x-box. and when i talk about the x-box, for the most part. I do know what i am talking about.

i understand how neat a x-box can be. if i bought an x-box.. id mod it right away. But i guess, an x-box is not meant to be modded. Imagine how much worse it could be once you taken away all your mods? just play it the way Microsoft wants you to play it. I don't know, microsoft is "supposidly" trying to change things so it can't be as easily modded. i guess time will tell.

i guess it might be my neiborhood. most of us were raised in the NES/SNES era. I was raised on the NES.. along with the neibor who likes x-box sports titles. everybody else was raised on the SNES. I guess its just based on how old our community is.. I was raised on Nintendo and I hope i never see Nintendo go down.. I seen that happen to sega :no: . Thanks for your responce Liquid.

by the way.. some of my neibors were raised on SEGA. although they don't trust buying sega consoles anymore because the company is unstable in the console business.

but i guess.. Nintendo won't have a lack of business in my neiborhood. we love our Nintendo.

XBox and Playstation may be the leaders in mass production or technical showmanship, but Nintendo has always produced the most memorable and flat out fun games I've ever played. I'm still loyal to my nintendo roots! :D

And from the sounds of it, Microsoft seem to be mistaking innovation with graphical power. I have nothing against Microsoft as a company, or the XBox as a console, because it has shown some innovation, at least in terms of it bringing in hard drives and a strong broadband-based net service. But the idea that the simple fact it's going to have good graphics means it's going to be the best console next gen is arrogant. I know he was to talk like this, but come on.

And from what we've heard, PS3 will own it graphically, and the Revolution will own it in terms of it's innovation. Check mate?

Nintendo is dead IMO, they have nothing left. The console department stinks and the handheld sides is slowly getting overrun in japan by PSP. If PSP really sells as much as sony expects (and sonys gaming products usually do) Nintendo wont have anything left. I really hope sony makes a nice broadband only pay online gaming service such as live, its just so nice.

DS has sold well nearly three million worldwide. PSP has sold around 700,000 in Japan, and is currently selling around 60,000 a week, as opposed to the DS' 40,000 a week. You don't have to be a genius to see that nothing has been over run yet. DS' sales figures are not embarrassing compared to the PSP's, and the DS has sold three times as many units

No matter what game comes out for XBox, nothing will beat Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 for the PS2. Those two games (the whole series, as a matter of fact), in my opinion, are one of the best all-time and it pushed the PS2 to its limits.

The XBox 2 hype isn't exciting to me. I still believe the PS3 will dominate yet again just like the previous 2 consoles.

Beware, PS3 may end up being as over hyped as PS2 was on the hardware side. It's almost a carbon copy of 6 years ago. They failed to match the hyped system power so badly it should be criminal. Xbox wasn't much better, remember the 300 million raw polygon number? The actual Xbox does less than 120 million raw (I know, raw makes no difference, it's the flashed out polys that matter, point is you can't always believe hype)

This generation was the first time in a long while that Nintendo was beat on a hardware power standpoint, and they were still ahead of PS2 power-wise. I don't think you can count them out of the graphical battle. Don't mind their graphics don't matter speeches, they gave them 5-6 years ago when Dolphin was on the horizon too.

Xbox: 19 million worldwide.

PS2: 81 million worldwide.

GameCube's share 15% (Xbox's percentage is 16%, BTW)

Just because they have 1% lower share and a profit doesn't mean they will die either.
