BackupFox 0.6

Are the users named the same (not the profiles, the Windows user accounts)?

Aahhhhh..... No.

This is a problem? Is there a way to change a Windows user name?

thnx

Not that I know of :( I really can't wait for Firefox/Thunderbird 1.1 (assuming they will get rid of folder dependencies).

Vfx or Gaviaal:

I think the problem you're having is that the chrome.rdf file is pointing to the wrong directory. In most cases on a fresh install of windows a user's profile directory would be found under C:\Documents and Settings\<username>. However, if the user has reinstalled windows over an old installation or has changed his username his profiles directory would not be C:\Documents and Settings\<username>.

...Got that?

....Just make sure that all the paths under your chrome.rdf file (open in notepad) are pointing to the right location.

I can't get it to work. Here's what I did:

1) Downloaded backupfox073.zip

2) Extracted 3 files: 7za.exe, backupfox.exe, and COMDLG32.OCX

3) Closed Firefox

4) Doubleclicked on backupfox.exe.

5) Waited and waited....nothing happened.

I'm using WinXP/Pro...logged in as administrator.

Well I've used this twice in the past few days to backup & restore (x2) my Firefox profile, and it's worked flawlessly on both occasions.

Great little app!

EDIT: BTW, using Firefox version 1.0.2. :)

Hi Raptor!

This is a great piece of work!

Some wish for future releases:

Maybe you could also include a profile backup function for the Sunbird calendar application? Should work like the others.

Thanks anyway.

I'm getting an error all of a sudden, and I don't know what's wrong. I ran it, clicked next, and I got this error:

Run-time error '5':

Invalid procedure call or argument

Anyone know what's wrong? :(

An interesting aside to this... I had the exact same issue, even enabled logging only to have the first two lines written, then the exe would terminate without any warning. This was over an RDP session to my work computer.

When I got to work the next day, I ran the exe from the console session and it ran as expected. Although I did run into another small problem....

the username of my home and work computers are different, and I noticed the chrome.rdf file still contained the username on the other computer. Manually editing in the correct username resulted in a fully functional restored profile.

Excellent work raptor!

Just went and used it, great little program. It is nice to be able to quickly back-up my install to another drive just in case of disaster...been a long time, but it has happened, the loss of a drive. Making it so easy to do, makes it more likely to be done.

If you want to add more features for the truly lazy (me), how about automated back-ups? ;)

We'll see about that. Right now I'm trying to solve more important issues. And I'm waiting for Firefox 1.1 :)

Raptor, is there a fix for this problem. I have the same thing happening. When I double-click the BackupFox icon, the hourglass spins for a second or two and then nothing happens.

Hello,

I updated some extensions and now my Firefox looks like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/02F...nstallation.jpg

I wanted to backup and restore the profile with your tool, but I got the same result... so I had to restore it in the old fashioned way. Not terrible when you're used to it, but it would be fantastic if there was also an option in your tool to restore only the basic files, not the extensions.

Greetings :)

PS: I tried also to uninstall the extensions but in vain.

With demise of Mozbackup, will it continue to work with impending 1.0.3?

Has BackupFox been tested by anyone with WinME yet?

Is support for TBird a distinct poss?
