PLESE NOTE: NOT FOR USE WITH WINDOWS XP SP1 ! ! !

OK, here is something I have been working on for a while now and it has rached a phase where it can be a handy tool for the newbie to the experienced alike. This installer will change 65 of your system files to the ones I have made with MMX icons. Before we get to the download links, I want to say one thing "READ THE README FILE"which you can get from HERE . Remeber that you are replacing some very serious OS files, so take the time to read it first. I tried to make the readme as comprehensive as possible, so read it.

So, for the links ? How about a screenie ?

InAction.jpg

and for some of the system you can grab them here 1 2 3 4

Grab the installer from HERE

Thats about it for now, have fun.

i had thought about including the theme (which would be real easy to do), but there is so many themes around and in particular madhatter (mercury), there is like a million variations of it. I could run a poll to see what people want and make a couple of installers with like Mercury, Sosumi, the popular ones. The only other thing is that the theme creators make changes fairly regularly. I am not writing it out of the picture yet !

[edit]

I could than pack msgina, logoff bmp's, logonui, bootscreens, the whole box and dice.

sorry guys, it was made with english files, so I told the installer NOT to install on any other language. In saying that, I did NO research into replacing foreign language files with english ones ??

I would think not, but I very well could be wrong. Can anyone help with this issue ??

If you can, I will unlock the installer and re-up it for you.

Yes that's the problem with all these shell hacks, if you have another language then english, you're system get's messed up.

I've ended up with a system which has english and dutch. Only if i uninstall the stuff i get my dutch files back.

:s

@tokrachi

It is possible to make a dutch version of it, but that requires replacing all icons again. :(

i will need all the dutch files uploaded b4 i can make anything. replacing them is about 1 days solid work infront of the PC (which I don't mind if alot of people want it), I don't want to sound rude, but I am not going to do it for 3 or 4 people. Everyone will want their own language done then and I will be stuck infront of the computer for the next 3 weeks doing installers. I am happy to do it for the masses. So gather your troups and we will see where it ends up :D

Hey, just wanted to mention, finally finished downloading the thing and installed it and I have one small problem. In the screenshot of the classic control panel with all the icons for the cpl's changed, that only occurs for a 1/4 of the icons on mine. The other 3/4 are standard control panel icons, not 3rd party control panel applets, btw. Other than that, great job! :D

If you have tweakUI click on repair icons and that will fix it :)

I notice a couple of you are asking if you can uninstall this ?

well, there is no uninstaller as the software I am using seemed to freak out at the thought of it. But in saying that, I made sure the every file that gets replaced is backed up and named with a ".mmx" file extension, eg: shell32.dll.mmx

For example, you can go back and rename shell32.dll to shell32.bak > rename shell32.dll.mmx to shell32.dll and you are back to normal again. I know this is a pain and I will be working on an uninstaller for future releases. REST ASSURED, NONE OF YOUR FILES WILL BE LOST.

[EDIT] bananaman, rebuild your icon cache with tkeakui from microsoft. If that doesn't work, let me know, but I installed this on a completely fresh instal of XP and it seemed to work fine for me ?

*slaps forehead*, I knew that. Thanks buddy, that did the trick! :D

Is there any possible way to make it where you can choose what .exe's and .dll's you want to install from the custom option or would that be hard to do?? I am running IE SP1 but i like the icons in it and what adverse effects will it have if i do install it over SP1? And btw great work!
