Cherry OS Trial Available!

You can set how much ram you want to allocate to the program, the more you allocate to it the better it will run .. remember it is trying to emulate a computer for the OS to run on therefore it needs to be told how much to use, in PearPC you can change the setting in the config file to how much ram you want to give it .. in this program it should probably allow you to do so in the settings somewhere.

bah.....still...that's a lot of RAM used....:/

What, no it's not. Do you know anything about the way emulation works? How much ram did you expect it to use? 40mb? That means OS X would be running on 40mb, which isn't nearly enough. OS X needs a lot of ram to run well. I run VMware on my machine and set my virtual XP systems to use 512mb, and VMware ends up using about 400mb of ram when running. The program isn't crap, you are just expecting too much from it.

That's the way it works. For those of you complaining it's slow, write your own PPC emulator. This is how emulation works. It's not going to be, and NEVER will be like running the actual OS on the correct hardware. OS X even on a real Mac requires a decent computer.

i started installing it by selecting one of my spare drives, setting it to 3gb and then i left growable volume unchecked.

BTW, if your installing from isos, i couldnt figure out how to complete an install

I know it gives you the option to select the .iso to start the install, but once it asks for CD2, how do you change it? :pinch:

I do know how emulation works...however....250MB of RAM is a bit too much for me...I was expecting it to be somewhere in the 150 to 180MB....and I didn't say anything about its performance. It's suppose to be like that and that is the best the current emulators can do, so nothing much we can talk about.....you're right...it will never beat the real thing. I have a Powerbook so I would know...;)

Its no breakthrough for sure, its definitely PearPC or based on PearPC.

I installed it, ran the little setup wizard to install OSX. But for some reason OSX could not detect a drive to install onto. I created a new profile and still get the same result. So I rename my PearPC image and replaced the CherryOS one with it, then booted CherryOS and it booted OSX, no problems.

Speed wise, its slow like PearPC. I'm running it on a Pentium4 2.4ghz and in OSX it shows it as 967mhz, but in performance, it feels like a 96.7mhz machine.

I agree with someone that said it earlier, CherryOS does provide a simpler interface than PearPC. Its easier to get it up and running. Internet also works in OSX as CherryOS does installs the network adapter. All I had to do was share the connection from main adapter, pretty easy.

Anyway, CherryOS is nothing like the author claims. At best its a nice installer for PearPC.

It looks like a lot of people were expecting a miracle with this; 10Mb RAM used, running at 99% of processor speed!

I had my doubts as to how well this would work. It did surpass my expectations by actually appearing, but I am a little disappointed that it i just pear pc with a GUI. :(

Looks like I'll be sticking with the Mac, for a long time to come! :D

Dougal.

Why would you? Becauase you "can't see why apple would fly off on one over this".

Since you read their EULA. Why don't you go read it yourself if you're wondering all this. No one's got time, just like yourself, to babysit read it out to you.

No need to be a prick about it. This guy was simply asking a question. Being a mod you're supposed to be more mature and an example to the members of the site.

Anyway, the so-called author of CherryOS is a notorious scam artist at some of the Mac emulation sites.

Wow... I never thought it would be released. But I thought it would be MUCH faster than PearPC if it were released :/

Can someone explain me why it is SO slow? I took the same HD PearPC has (there was no way I could install it on a new HD, CherryOS was always crashing)

It's an emulator. That's why it's so slow.
