Videogame prices set to rise on next-gen consoles

Ah a return to the stupid prices of the N64 games, at least these 1's should be better. I'll probably end up renting more games and only buying the 1's that are really good!

Look, if you are against a $59.99 price point for games, then do not buy the game.

They will see $49.99 games selling well and $59.99 games not pushing the numbers and will be forced to lower the prices. Simple economics. Sad thing is people will still buy it.

hopefully..... Nintendo's next system won't be ghey like the Gamecube is when it comes to how their discs are done. stupid backwards reading crap. Better not have to pay $60+ for games. glad the new Zelda's comin out in time to still probably be on GC. probably play that thing for AGES!!! Zelda games always seem to have an awesome replay value. Or... maybe not REPLAY value, but maybe a "keep on playin'" value.

The cube's system's actually very well designed. There are modchips out for it now though...and multiple bioses for the viper...

And for your info "ghey" will get your face kicked in around most places

People are going to pirate no matter what the price is. Cheap skates use price as an excuse to steal. As far as i'm concerned, things like games and movies are a luxury, and if the price is too expensive, maybe you should look at your priorities better. Its a drop in the bucket for me either way,i don't need to make excuses about how unfair and mean "the man" is.

I've never had a problem shelling out for games I am going to invest many hours into. In the grand scheme of things, it's still cheaper that going to the movies, drinking down the street, or the fines I get for smacking people up who say stuff like "ghey". I also support my favorites. Like the above post says, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

I love games, and never have any problem buying the ones I'm interested in, regardless of price. Hell, I remember paying ?75 for a release day copy of Ocarina of Time (gold cartridge). But thats UK prices for you. Given current exchange rate, that means you guys would have paid $135 for it.

I just got Resident Evil 4 today, and on top of the delay in its European release, I have to pay the equivalent of $70 for it. And thats cheap.

So don't complain yet kids.

it's not much of an increase considering how much games cost to make. They've come from simple productions made by one to a dozen people to full productions on-par with any high budget hollywood production. Also considering the incredibly weak dollar and rising inflation, it might be time to ask for a raise at work to make up for the inflation and a little extra(the actual raise). Most games in fact LOSE money and ALL consoles lose money. So honestly quit complaining about rising costs. Everyone is having rising costs across the board but what you don't have that the people at the game companies DO have is numbers they have to meet in order for their stocks to be worth anything to begin with. They have to raise prices to keep shareholders happy or the company will go backrupt.

edit

look at this inflation calculater

http://www.westegg.com/inflation/

if you can remember a NES game made in 1990 sold for ~50.00. Just about what a game costs today. Try running the calculater for 1990 -> 2003 with $50.00. And remember, 2003 is BEFORE the dollars value sunk incredibly low. So it's even worse today then the calculater shows.

If they had a brain they would lower prices to around $39.95. Guess they don't care about pirates.

Now, I say they should raise prices $100.00. Then hopefully consoles would die like I wish they would do.

There was time when you could get a weeks groceries fro $5.

Now $100 is not enough.

Yep I agree, and when they start seeing the effects financially, they will stop this kind of crap. Prices are too high right now as it is, much less $60 a game.

Aren't the Next Gen consoles supposed to cost upwards to $500 from what I have read in news reports?

This is getting pretty ridiculous.

And average family could not even afford a small entertainment console for their kids anymore.
