Is it just me or is PS2 startin to suck?

What are you talking about?

here is the rankings of consoles graphics wise (higher is better)

Gamecube

PS2

Xbox

Gamecube is powered by a PowerPC engine and produces the best graphics.

PS2 is top-line hardware from 1999.? When it came out, it was better than people's computer graphics.

Xbox is P3 hardware from 1996.? Crap.

I am not biased, as I own an Xbox.? I really like my xbox, but the graphics are not as great as PS2's can be.? The reason you see some multi-platform games with better graphics on Xbox is because Xbox is really easy to code for, whereas PS2 takes time.? But, since PS2 is older, programmers already know hoe to best produce the games for it.

I can't wait until PS3 come out.? From what I hear, the Cell processor is really something to talk about.

I have to disagree with you.

Its xbox

gamecube

ps2

Chronicles of riddick, doom 3 and lots of other games will run real ugly and/ or slow on the ps2. P3 has nothing to do with graphics. You dont even bother to mention what graphics xbox has like you do for all the other o:rolleyes:leyes:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

and lets see some pics of the hardware in your sig to back up your computer that changes daily....

Im a big PC/Console fan. I have all the systems.... But it seems like PS2 cant handle good graphic games.. I just recently bought Tekken 5 as a last hope ... The graphics are Horrid. Seems like x-box has it beat big time now... PC of course blows em both away... but still ... how about retire the PS2 release all games on x-box from now on... Sry PS2 fans.... But its time to sell em while they are worth at least some $$$...Im selling mine if anyone is interesed. I have the multi adapter, like 4 games, 4 controllers......like brand new almost .... If your interested let me know....

You just now noticed?

The PS2 graphics have sucked for years now.

I'm sorry, but this is getting out of hand.

First of all, to answer the thread's original intention: PS2 started to suck as soon as it came out. I may be a little biased, but even so, when I played PS2 at launch over my friend's house, I had my Dreamcast over at the same time, we both preferred the DC. For one, the Dreamcast graphics look damn good, even better than some of the original PS2 games. Second, the controls are soooo much better on DC. I'm sorry, but the PS controls haved sucked from day one.

Alright, now back onto the current situation. First of all, Xbox has the best graphics capabilities of all consoles: hands down!!! You can't contradict me, as the specs are much higher than the others - ok, so it has the specs of a 1999 computer, but it is dedicated to gaming. Gamecube is next up as it has an amazing graphics processor, much better than the Xbox (read the hardware spec details). PS2 does have some amazing integrated graphics hardware (for 1999) but the raw processing power is very poor and memory is always an issue.

I really hate flaming, but people sometimes don't know what they are talking about when they post and I don't like it when people say the PS2 is the most powerful system when it is plainly not.

yeah its true that ps2 has started to show its age but , it does get more gaming titles , some of them are really good to look at mgs3 , gt4 etc . we do get excellent games like gta:sa first . and if you dont have a problem with the level of gfx you get on it ( i mean like they aint as bad as mah fx5200) , then its a pretty good machine . plus it looks way better lying in the open , than mah xbox or cube , they look just fugly .

whereas , apart from halo & a few games with better gfx , xbox doesnt have much to boast abt . the only thing i find good abt GC is resident evil 4 & that too willl be ported to ps2 & not xbox .

by the time ps3 comes out , xbox2 will not be the cool thing anymore just the way it happened to ps2.

Just mah 2cents

Its just you! PS2 is 6 years old and it came out like a year before Xbox! now that the next generation conoles are going to be realesed in the same month they will have the same grafices! SO don't make fun of the PS2 because technicly it was better than any coucle before they came out!

The graphics suck on the PS2 because game makers are too lazy to utilise the emotion engine cause they dont feel like programing it. Thats the reason why third party games look terrable and big name PS2 only releases look fantastic.

They can't utilize the emotion engine anymore than the already are because Sony didn't give the PS2 enough RAM for SH*t. 32 meg!!? WTF were they thinking?!! Its also alot harder on the CD Drives because they have to do so much streaming off the disc. If Sony would've given the system more memory, I feel things would be a little closer gfx wise than they are now. Xbox is still superior tech, though.

To the person that made the comment over Halo 2 cutscenes, they're messed up because Bungie thought load time was an issue and made the game load the next stage while playing cut scenes. Pretty stupid decision if you ask me. I didn't have a problem with Halo 1's loads and the game would've looked much more polished in the end.

32 megs isn't alot not now for a console but remember that back in the day bill gates said 640kb will be enough for anyone

Actually it has to do with how fast the game engine can adapt LOD adjustments. They designed it so that LOD (Level Of Detail) changes would be smooth during actual gameplay.

In actual gameplay, the camera doesn't jump from one side of the map to another. During cut scenes, it does.

I do wish they could have tweaked it during the cut scenes so that those anomolies didn't show... but they aren't a weakness of the engine - they're a consequence of using the unmodified game engine for the cut scenes.

Actually the PS2's 32MB system memory has nothing to do with its poor graphics quality.

However, the 4MB of memory accessible by the video card is a big problem for developers. Trying to fit textures and a framebuffer into 4MB isn't fun. Even if that 4MB is crazy fast.

The Xbox 2 graphics chip will have 10MB of eDRAM. But it will only have to use it for the framebuffer - which is a perfect size for rendering at 720p. The Xbox 2's main memory (just like the Xbox 1) will be used for texture storage.

My explanation came from an EGM interview with Bungie if I remember correctly. Doesn't matter really, not like its ever gonna be fixed. I haven't touched the game since Xmas.

585636936[/snapback]

Well, I didn't say you were wrong :p it's entirely possible that they tried using a tweaked engine for the cutscenes that would not show those LOD adaptation delays. And it's quite possible that loading a seperate instance of the engine just for cut scenes added to the load time (unload game engine, load cutscene engine, unload cutscene engine, load game engine...). And they didn't think that trade off was worth it.
