I use AP 4.10 on Win XP SP1a and after AP 4.10, I run 5.x and it's perfect. I even have Windows Firewall without SP2 :)

So i't possible to have AP 5.x after AP 4.10 on Win XP SP1a

Windows Firewall, although not called "Windows Firewall" was around before SP2, just named differently, and not as advertised.

yes, it is possible...but not recommended.

some updates included in AP 5.x are for XP SP1 as well as SP2.

However the majority are just for SP2.

SP1 only fixes are not included.

if you do use AP 5.x on SP1 you will still have many updates to retrieve from windows update.

And btw, there is absolutely no excuse for not using SP2. it is not an optional upgrade, but a MAJOR critical update.

Initially when it was released, many businesses had to hold off from using it because their custom made software wasnt compatible, but they've had plenty of time to fix that.

As for everyone else, you may have some teething troubles, it is a major update after all, but with proper preperation it should go smoothly. if you run into problems there are many forums out there that can help you, including this one.

Well, it's time to switch to bilingual talk here  :D

First in dutch:

Hi Dollarman,

Dutchie??

As I'm sure many of you know, or at least should know, Patch Tuesday is tomorrow!? How soon can we expect AP XP June 2005?:

How soon the next release will be available for downloading depends on the tests and if the patches will be available in all languages. English won't be a problem.

I can't say if it will be added to create a new FULL and LITE version or that it will be an UPDATE version.

For those who are interested in more information about theBIG patch> coming up on Tuesday 14th.

Then you can read more here : Microsoft Security Bulletin Advance Notification

Looking foward to JUNE release, don't forget to put in the tweaks you published on forum on 23rd of May... :)

Will you put new Microsoft installer, has it past testing?

Can you at least put Mozilla Firefox to the full package as optional its only 4.7MB?      :spam:    :bounce:

Angelico_Payne, unfortunatelly, Mozilla's Firefox installer cannot be used for silent installation, so the small, 4MB file is of no use for us. We need to repackage it and that means we're left with a much bigger, 12-13MB file.

rallen52, yes you can select what to install.

As it is at the moment, there is no silent install for Mozilla Firefox, and the program will have to be re-packaged with an installer, which will increase the installer filesize, and waste a lot of time.

Hoever, when 1.1 comes out, this will be possible instantly, so just wait ;)

hi,could you tell me how to use this,i m on a dial up and its a nightmare to keep my xp up to date,i assume that its for that,do you pick what you need and install?thanks for your time,i really appreciate any help,  rallen52@gmail.com

Your best bet would be to download the Lite package (or better yet, get somebody on broadband to download it for you and burn it onto CD) and install it. yes you do pick and choose what you want installed, it's just a matter of ticking checkboxes.

:)

//edit, Raptor beat me to it :ninja:

Sorry everyone.  I am now forced to remove the AutoPatcher Full download from my site due to the extreme load.

This is an indication that people need to download via BitTorrent rather than overusing the mirrors. Learn it, use it, and benefit everyone! If you had provided that file over the BitTorrent network, you wouldn't have used as much bandwidth, you'd have encouraged more to use BitTorrent, and your server could go up and down without affecting the reliability of the download. Now I suppose we have dead links to clean up.

I need a connection at home that can upload 250GB in 4 days.

Can't you just download the zipped version of firefox - without the install. AFAIK, firefox works standalone - no install needed. Just run a self extracting archive or something.

the zip file doesn't add the add/remove programs entry... I'm guessing most people want this entry
