I currently have 3 PC's. 2 I built myself and 1 Dell. My main PC is one of the ones I built myself. While I certainly did not save any money, I did get everything EXACTLY as I wanted it. Every piece of hardware and software. Totaled just over 3 grand. It is hands down the best PC I have ever owned or used. I will never buy another pre-built PC ever again.

Mine is from gateway..almost 1 year old..pretty stupid if u ask me..but oh well my parents bought it for me..straight out of the display, i didnt change anything. The one im building now tho, its gonna kick ass, i cant wait till i receive the parts, only like 1 more week..yay :) I just hope i dont burn out the processor or anything stupid like that, i dont have the best of luck, then again im 13..an unlucky number..lol. Anyways a tip to anyone intersted in buying a prebuilt PC: gateway is evil and should burn in hell, altho their technical support was great.

My Gateway is pushing 2 years old... I added a couple things in it, like I put in a DVD drive and MPEG card, and I'm going to make more modifications to it. And Gateways aren't all that bad, but yeah, their tech support is awesome.

I really would like to build my own PC sometime, but I'm getting a laptop this summer, so that probably won't happen until I am out and about on my own.

shop smart and get the best parts! :) Its not really hard to build your own pc... just read some papers about it, and try to have one printed to go by while you build. this is my third home built and my first pc was a prefab.

Good luck to all that plan on building your own... you will be happy when its finished. :D

peace,

IgGy :D

I spent all of.. three hours building my machine and getting it running, was easier than a 50 piece jigsaw!!

I've never bought a pre-built PC as all I know who have bought one have been ripped off with sub-standard parts/cases/mobos.

Anyone who can put together a computer - it's one of the easiest things to do, all it takes is patience, some instructions from the net and a few hours.

I Built my own and my wife did her own

mine is

AMD Athlon XP 2000+

Asus A7V266-C

512Mb DDR Ram

nVIDIA Geforce 4 MX/460 64MB/AGP

Matrox 40Gb ATA100 @7200 rpm X 2

LG DVD ROM drive

Acer 16x12x40 burner/cdrom

Altec lansig surround towers

Soundblaster Audigy Platinum

Windows Xp Pro / Redhat Linux

sAMSUNG sYNCmASTER 1100P 21"

This is like my 1000th PC to build...somewhere up there.

It will probably be one of the last few i build as I don't build machines for other people anymore...so tired of dealing with morons. Now I build them only for my wife and I. The kids are going to get iMacs when they're old enough ;)

I built mine with parts ranging from top of the line-ish (mobo, proc, sound card) to old parts laying around the house (3.5" mouse keyboard.. both of which were replaced by top of the line...) and mid range items throwon in there too... 2/40GBhd's, geforce2, 17"monitor... total cost to me.... $500... (parents boutght the monitor, the 2nd 40GB was bought off a friend, and i boutght the geforce2 out of a friends fried box for $30

Built it myself in November:

Asus P4T-F motherboard

Pentium 4 1.5GHz

512Mb PC800 RDRAM

60Gb Seagate Barracuda IV (fast and very quiet HDD)

GeForce 3 Ti200

WinTV PCI

LS-120 (got it free when worked in a Gateway PC store)

Philips DVD/CDRW combo

Soundblaster Live! 5.1

Harmon/Kardon speakers

CTX 19" Monitor (want to get 17" TFT screen soon)

Windows XP Pro/Mandrake Linux 8.2

I also have a Dell Latitude laptop which is used by the gf when we want to go online at the same time - P3 500, 384Mb etc.
