groingo2
If I turn Java Scripting off the problem goes away but if I keep Java Scripting off and make a change in Preferences (example...Preferences / Advanced) and change any box and click OK, the out of focus problem is back. This has been an ongoing problem since version 7.23 or before on various machines using both Win 98 and XP and is definitely alive and well in Version 8. groingo2
What happens is the entire page gets a blurry look, all sharpness is lost but the solution odd as it may seem is to turn the Java off and it doesn't happen. They are similar in name only. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/310210-opera-8-final-looses-page-focus/#findComment-585794865 Share on other sites
groingo2
At first, turning off Java Scripting stopped the problem when viewing websites but not after making changes using the Preferences functions as mentioned above. The two are seperate problems but now have one single solution. Turning the Java itself OFF cured both problems and allows the Java Scripting to work normally without causing the page blurring. I have no idea why it works but it simply does and it doesn't seem to cripple the browser for what I need. vcv
This doesn't make sense at all. Opera should not "blur" a page at all. Next time it happens, take a screen shot. vcv
There is something VERY wrong there. Is it just the opera wndow, or other stuff too? Try updating video drivers? groingo2
There is something VERY wrong there.? Is it just the opera wndow, or other stuff too?? Try updating video drivers? 585797875 You're telling me, have seen it go unaddressed for years now, and several computers later using Win 98, 98 SE and XP, did it in all of my computers regardless. Video drivers is the first thing I keep up to date, heck it even does it with the onboard Savage video! The problem happens only when using Opera and continues for as long as you browse or until you close and re-open Opera. It appears to activate when a site requires either Java or Java Script as close as I can figure... the Preference adjustments can also activate it which tells me they must use Java too, but having Java turned off does not effect Preferences function. And this is just one of many problems Opera 8 continues to have that include clunky outdated user interface (especially TABs) and their insistance to comply with Web standards which results in many websites and functionalities just not being up to par. Netscape 8 Beta is still my favorite because it is faster, less site fussy and overall much easier to use. Almost sounds like a halfhearted rant, just dissapointed that Opera still can't get it right. As far as the Opera forum, all you get is the same old answers..."works fine for me...you must be a troll". Even old Nontroppo has nothing to say on it. Make sure Java is turned on and Java Scripting...it should be by default. Now, simply go to Tools / Preferences / Advanced then simply click OK and that's all it takes, I tested it just a second ago and it worked. Java on blurry, Java off clear. I definitely does appear to be a JAVA problem. No blurriness here. Have you tried other PCs, or maybe a friend's/neighbor's to see if it's just yours? Btw, I'm not running any of Sun's java. Just realized that. Are you running a version of Sun's Java? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/310210-opera-8-final-looses-page-focus/#findComment-585798256 Share on other sites

I'm dropping the issue since simply dissabling JAVA does the trick for me. I might try seeing if there is an update for the JAVA. wiebeest
Here ya go!Pretty Annoying HUH? 585797044 Dude, I have the exact same problem since a few weeks. Thought some freaky virus or spyware, but ZoneAlarm & Ad-Aware both say there shouldn't be anything wrong. Updated every driver for my system available but the problem persevered. So it's Java, you say? I'll try right away!
